how can you possibly cut notches without violating the back ring? is it that big a deal?

also, is there a recipie for gelatin glue?

You misunderstand what a ring violation is or how nocks should be cut on a bow with no overlay.
 Gelatin  is just added to water and heated. You can experiment with the mix and find what works for you.

Jay, here is a bow I'm working on and cut these nocks today.  Yes, they look pretty deep, but the entire back is NOT violated.......and this part of the tip of the bow will not bend.  These tips will be narrowed more and I will do tip overlays on this bow also.
