simple noob question. how do you haft a point with no notch (a basic triangle) I made a decent glass head, have gut thread, a good shaft and some turkey. but how the heck do I attach a head with no notches?
-
I notch the shaft to fit the point, add pitch glue to the notch, add the point into the notch and make sure it spins true and wrap with sinew.
-
just wrap below the point??
-
Depends on the point. On a triangular point, yes. On appoint with side notches I crisscross the sinew around the point through the notches and back down the shaft. On points with a tang I 'll just wrap around the shaft with the tang in it.
-
here is the point

and forgive my knapping skills XD
-
You could add notches about 1/4 way up from the base and do a crisscross with the sinew wrap to hold the point to the shaft.
-
lol. my notches have a tendency to shatter the head

Practice more! ;)

The easiest thing to do is attach the un-notched point with epoxy that is made for glass. You can use pitch glue also but it will not be as strong and will melt in a hot car. Pitch glue works, don't get me wrong, but it requires some finesse.
Here is a link to one of my videos where I use epoxy on un-notched points:

After notching the arrow , gluing the point on, wrap on the point like it had notches just dull it where the wrap will contact the side of the point. Good luck Ed
