This is my first ocean spray bow, thanks for the stick of wood Brycey boy. Its very unique wood. Hard as a rock and VERY stiff. It took very little wood to make a 52# bow, its osages' white wood cousin. The skins are rat snake. I got them from Clint, thanks pal. My plan was to keep the bark on, but at early brace it popped on me and I painstakingly removed it all with a scraper and sand paper. I left some on the front and back of the handle, made for a grippy surface. I left the natural profile untouched, just bent the top limb tip over a few inches to get my string centered. Its sealed with two coats of shellac and two coats of tung oil. Ill wax it later.
Specs:
63" ntn
52# @ 28"

Beautiful bow, well done. I got a piece of OS that I can't wait to start on.
-
That turned out great. Natural yet classy. I really like the bark handle.
-
Very nice Pearly....Love the skins. You're likin the OS eh? Your bark story is very familiar....I always start out hopin it will stay on but usually end up havin to remove it from the bendy parts....I'll leave it on about 8" of the tips and the grip center for nice effect because the bark is so nice looking when finished.

I like the skins wrapping the skins. That's a cool idea. Your bows can be used as pictures in the dictionary for the words "perfect tiller".
-
Nice.
-
That's one cool looking bow. Those skins look great too. Did you use any stain or is it natural. Love those simple sticks man.
-
Great looking bow and tiller PD!
-
Bryce! Your not supposed to let those Osage heads in on our secret West Coast bow woods. Oh well, the cats been out of the bag for a while I guess. Heck of a bow, as usual Chris!

Id compare it to an osage bow of similar style big guy. Decent speed and decent energy. It will surely take out a whitetail if asked to!

I thought long and hard about that Russ. I didn't want any wraps anywhere on this bow and couldn't think of a good way to finish the skin ends. What you see are the edge trimmings I cut off the sides. I just glued them on as you see and sealed it, I like how it finished off.

You better watch yourself young man! :)
Ive used so much different wood now I cant even remember which are the good one which are bad? Match your expectations to the wood and they all come out nice.

El' Natural Matty. The pics don't do the grain justice. Its so dense that it really looks sweet all steel wooled out.

Knocker this bow is a lot like your elm bow. Same feel and style. Notice the Velcro dot for a strike plate? :)

Very cool!

Here is one I made a few years back, phyancord.
-
Really slick looking bow Pearl. Do you know how much it weights? Looks fast. From pictures it looks like you finished it awhile ago. I'm thinking you've been shooting it awhile now and still like the wood? I really like the bark on the naked handle to. Might have to experiment with the way you ended your skins. Sure wish I was going to Elm Hall we finished wheat last night so just the fair in the way now.

Not sure what it weighs BJ? Its very heavy and dense stuff. I haven't shot it in a long time. I have 30 or 40 bows hanging around and only 2 or 3 get shot regularly, this isn't one of them. I think that's typical.
-
I understand I'm not to that point yet but I can see it coming someday after I build one for all my kids grandkids wife cousins and of course to replace ones I wear out. I think my 1st is going to mostly hang on wall soon. It is a sweet looking bow you got there.

Nice! Love the Rat Snake skins.

Sweet, Pearly boy, OS is a wood that's on my list to try. It seems like all of that NW Coast white wood is good.
