Sent this one to Dave a few month back in exchange for the fine osage/copper head static he made for me. The stave was given to me by Paulsemp and was a perfectly pipe straight piece of hackberry. Don't really remember the exact specs on the bow but somewhere around 57" to 59" ntn and mid to low 40#'s @ 27".
I think it started out around 60" but I piked it in an attempt to get some weight back as it came in under weight. Still ended up low draw weight but I figured Dave already has a stable full of hard hitting hunting bows.
Finish is ground earth pigments mixed with alcohol with the red accents are acrylic paint, all with tru oil on top. Handle is bare with some wood burned designs on the side and with only sinew wraps placed for locator to hand placement. Wanted to keep it somewhat true to the style of a n/a bow and force Dave to be a knuckle'r shoot'r. ;D
Realized that I've been making bows but haven't posted some of them lately so thought I would put this
out there for all to see. :)

Funny...literally just put down Volume 2 after randomly deciding to re-read the Eastern Woodland section, and jump on here and find this. Was juuuust thinkin about how crazy some of the scalloped bows seemed. This one is a really beauty for sure. And out of a wood I'm quite fond of.

Thanks bowmo, yeah I am always looking at volume 1 of native american bows, arrows and quivers by Steve Allely and Jim Hamm for inspiration. Probably open that book up 3 or more times a week while sitting out on the porch relaxing in the evening.

So many things right about this bow. Well done!

So when a guy gets into a trade with Greg he has in his kind what he hopes to get right? I have wanted one of Greg bows for a long time and after a few meetings with him it just had to be be done. I never said what I wanted out loud just hoped for one of his awesome scalloped bows. This one is awesome!
Greg I'm so glad you posted this one. The bow is awesome for sure. The fact that this Hackberry bow holds reflex after shooting my 26 inch draw being only 57in. Proves that Greg knows his sh $ t. The design and finish is excellent as his Greg own personal style. I'll take some more pics of this beautiful piece of art and post Em tomorrow for you all.
Thanks greg. Good trade!
-
Thanks Drewster for the nice cpmpliment.
Thanks Bob and hope hope to see ya again up north next summer.
Bushboy, Okie, Jodocus & Bryce, thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback and kind comments.
Thanks for the kind words Dave but I think received the nicer bow in this trade and it was just what I wanted too. Deciding what to build for you was easy because I had noticed that your eye was always drawn to the single sided scalloped hickory bow I had hanging among the others at camp in Tenn. :)
Glad you like it brother, I sure feel lucky to have one of your beautiful snake backed osage statics.
-
That bow is seriously badass. Awesome work man!
-
As always Greg, nice job. Keeping up the Badly Bent Style.
-
There isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said! You make a great looking bow Greg, but that tiller is so perfect, I had to put in my two cents. Lots of us have bow building books laying around the house and there are plenty of examples of good tiller pictured in mine. Nothing in any of those books bends any better than that one! You do inspiring work brother.
-
Beautiful!
-
Beautiful bow, love the scallops and the finish job.
