Sure pretty...........sure thin.
-
Looks like the nocks on my old personal shooter actually!
Well, mine are on a molle so they're not side nocks.
Love me some bocote! Beautiful ;D
-
Thanks, don't think there too thin do ya? Patrick
-
Thanks huisme! Patrick
-
Nice looking overlay. If the draw weight isn't too heavy I don't think i'd worry about the 'thin-ness'.
-
My weight is 40lbs @27 on this bow. Patrick
-
The little ones on that molle I mentioned held fifty pounds at twenty six inches. I think you're good with that bocote ;)

Here are a few more. Patrick

Only one way to find out. Shoot the tar out of it. Id shoot it if that makes you feel any better....:) The guys will tell you, if a bow has a flaw of any sort Ill find it first draw.
-
Thanks Pearl, I've shot it a bunch with the temp nocks but I got to finish the other end before I shoot it again. Patrick
-
I like the shape a lot but proportionally, they look a wee bit small. Very nicely crafted too.
-
I once made pin nocks on a bow with tips that were 1/4" wide. The part holding the string was probably close to 3/32" wide but 1/2" deep. The thing about nocks is that the string doesn't have enough leverage to break them off unless they aren't deep enough. Or at least that's my theory. >:D I'm sure yours will be fine.

That's about how I figure it, no reason not to go small on mollegabets!
-
Those look great.
-
Thanks guy's, I've never made them that small before. I had less to work with than I normally do. I traded sleek for this bow and his nocks are a good bit different from mine. I still have to do some finish work and maybe even something new that I never seen before on the back instead of a snake skin.
Hopefully I didn't screw this one up but to me I think it will work. At least I'm planning on stringing it and shooting it. I checked my string and it seems to lay in the nock nicely. Patrick
-
I guess it is a little smaller than I thought it was. Here is a couple with the string around it. Patrick

Two steps forward and one step back.

I don't think you will have any problem shooting. I'd be afraid of any side load from bracing or tripping in the woods but what do I know? I'm a little chicken-ship of that kind of stuff :-[
-
Good point on the side load. That was a concern of mine because lebhuntfish uses the push pull method to string. I dont know if that stresses the tips differently than step through which does not touch the tips. Other than that nice craftsmanship for sure! Looks like a nice transition from back of bow to fade. That grain will really pop when you put a finish on. Looking forward to seeing the surprise backing on it! Im sure it will look good if its anything else like your other work.
-
Thanks sleek, I'm concerned about the side load myself. But the thing is, that's the top nock and I always make it "fancier" than the bottom one. I will post pictures of it when I get it done.
Yeah I'm getting anxious to see my design that's in my mind come out! Patrick
-
If it's just the top nock I can't think of any side load that's going to happen. Other than slamming it in a car door >:D

Yeah, dont do that.
-
Lol, don't leave it on top of you car and Driver either! ;D Patrick
-
Nice clean work, those look beautiful
-
Thanks simsom! Patrick
-
Ive been making similar nocks for more than 2o years,, nothing but positive results,,, take an old bow tip,,, similar,, put it in a vise and try to break it pulling with a string,,,,, you will see it is stronger than it looks,,
-
Thanks Brad, I have made several Tips pretty small. And they were plenty strong. I done a little test with that one last night. I can put probably 50lbs of pressure on the tips with the string. Patrick
