This little beauty has been taking up bench space for months, and I'm finally ready to call her done. I cut this stick down to 55" and started shaping it to accept sinew. Tillered, flipped the tips, toasted the belly and then put down 3 courses of deer leg sinew before letting it hang in the trusses. After final tiller I brought her along slowly to make sure it could handle the bend. Eventually I added rams horn tips, a really nice WDB skin and cork handle (front and back) before covering it with braintan. Now it's pulling about 48#@27" with a Dyna97 string.

Thanks fer lookin, and God Bless!

Looks like a sweet shooter indeed! I have to try that osage/sinew combo someday. Killer bow all around Scott!
-
I bet that's a sweet shooter i like everything about it Scott, great looking bow, bub
-
Beautiful execution. Is it osage, though? Seems light in color, more like locust.
-
That's a beauty!! Nicely done.
-
@springbuck - If I could get black locust to do that, I'd have even more of it laid up than I do osage. All my BL gets burnt as firewood. Don't even try anymore.
-
Excellent little bow, Scott 8)
-
I love that style of bow. Short sinew backed osage is a great combo. Nice job on it Scott. Looks like a hunter to me.
-
Nice one. Did you reverse brace after sinew?
-
very nice,, :)
-
Nice one. Did you reverse brace after sinew?
Nope, I did add some reflex when I toasted the belly. I started with 3", and the sinew pulled it back another inch.
-
See if this post works. This is a video so touch the pic.

-
Very nice.....I like everything about that.
-
You need to send that bow my way and let me test her out or you! 8)
Very cool bow.
E
-
Pretty much perfect, all around. That's a great bow.
-
Great looking job on that one, all areas covered!
-
That's a perfect length of osage to sinew and those sexy skins will keep pesky moisture out. But why use sinew when you can use plant fibers? ;)
-
Well done Scott
-
But why use sinew when you can use plant fibers? ;)
About spit soda out my nose right there ;D
-
I let the deer eat em, then I use the deer. >:D
-
By the way, please don't patronize me if the tiller seems wrong. I'm keeping track of the number of people who are avoiding the issue. :o >:D ;D
-
That's quality! Very nicely done. Jawge
-
Very nice!.... Brian
-
wow amigo!!! very nice little shooter there!! sweet sweet bow in all regards!!
cipriano
-
Thats a super nice little bow man! I have one about the same length that's in the floor tiller stage right now. Planning something similar. Hope it comes out half as nice as yours.
Watched the video, that's what me and my buddies call a zipper! It seems to flat zip those arrows! Well done and nice bend as well! Patrick
-
That is a great looking bow. I love the tips, the handle, snake skin, well I guess all of it. Nice work.
-
That is a real beauty right there!
-

You know me...I ain't skeered.... >:D
That tiller job sucks
-
Man, that is a fine looking bow Scott. I hope you can get some more pics of it out in the sunshine with some green grass behind it one day. Looks cold there brother.
-
No worries blackie, I'm only considering qualified critiques. ;)
Thanks gents!
Howard, I might just take that thing on a turkey hunt someday. Patrick is right it is a snappy little thing.
-
My kinda bow right there. Osage and sinew is MAGIC............ 8)
-
Scott,
It looks great, what are your limb widths? I have a similar piece just wonderin.
Thanks Sean
-
1 1/4" and tapering to 1/2" tips
-
Cool little bow Scott!
-
Bring that to the Classic. I'd like to shoot that one. You know I won't over draw it.
-
Sweet bow! Like it a lot.
-
Had me at the first picture, a bendy handle in the mid to upper 50" length is pretty much what I like best in a bow. Osage, sinew and snakeskin are the icing on the cake, looks like a real good one Scott, nice job.
-
I'm with Chicken Hawk tiller stinks >:D
Darn fine looking job Scott!!!
-
"Sweet" is definitely the right word. That bow IS SWEEEEEEEET!
Tiller looks pretty crappy to me too. wish my bows looked that bad! ;)
-
Yuck it up soyburger, ur package ain't sent yet. >:D

Yea.. While we @ it.. That's an ugly skin :o
-
That s one sweet little how man. Great job
-
awesome work, I want to try one like that soon, seems to be a good brush bow style.
-
that one's right up my alley, nice work!
-
That is a nice bow for sure! Nice job!
-
Beautiful bow Scott, love to try that one out in a few months. ;) Bet it will spit an arrow. :)
Pappy
-
I just did the old hold a quarter up to the pic on my phone bend in the handle looks pretty good
-

Oh, HELL no! Black locust is as good a wood as I have access to in Utah, and that rarely. You gotta try again. I know it burn really well, but I'm gonna think of this at night and cry. Try again, just don't treat it like it's osage! Or send me a boxcar load if you have enough to waste! ;)
-
Glad you said that bubby, I just almost threw it in the trash. ::)
Bucky, if you lived closer I'd be tempted to let you fill that box car up with the useless stuff. However, I have a piece or 2 still standing in the corner that I'm never gonna get around to. I'd love to see someone that knows how to work with it, actually make it into a bow.
-
Thanks, Adam. Not sure how else to get a 27" draw out of a 55" stick, but it is a lot of bend. ;)
-
Very nice. It is a lot of bend but I do believe you could get a bit more out of her if you wanted to
-
Quite possibly, Marc. But the question then becomes where is the line. How far do you pull it?
-
Thanks, Adam. Not sure how else to get a 27" draw out of a 55" stick, but it is a lot of bend. ;)
Doesn't have to be a bendy handle. Here's a bow I posted a while ago... 52" bamboo/osage R/D, 52" OAL, pulling 40#@26", with an 8" non-bending handle.
-
Quite possibly, Marc. But the question then becomes where is the line. How far do you pull it?
There is no line Scott. If 27" is your draw length then that is all you need
-
Scott I was thinking it needed a couple scrapes in the lower upper 3'rds bottom 1/2. It looks kinda wonky :o ;)
Dude, you stuck that one clean. Very nice job. I bet it will just keep getting better as it cures even more. I'm doing a non sinew 55" as we speak and I hope my tiller is as killer as your is on that one. Danny
-
Scott, looks like it will handle the magical pull of 28 inches ;)
Cipriano
-
Nice bow! It bends a lot in the handle, but that's the point of a bendy handle bow. Short bendy handle bows are not my cup of tea, but well done none the less. Love the sinew and skins.
-
That's a sweet bow what type of snake skin is that?
-
Western diamondback rattler.
-
Great looking bow, nice work all around
-
I just saw this bow and I love it. I have favorited this one because i think my next attempt will be an attempt to mimic this one.
