Title: drying time for stave

What are your tecniques for a green stave, say 3"x 3" to work into a bow as quick as safely possible.

depends on the wood- what kind, when cut, and what's already been done to it?

Yeah, seriously. If I cut a locust in the dead of winter I'd start tillering a couple weeks after cutting. Middle of summer I'd dry it for a month at rough blank dimensions first. It's different between lots of groups of trees; my ash and vine maple all seemed to be ready at about the same time gut in summer.
