Finished this bow for a fellow in Kansas who wanted a stout shortish bow that looked like it came right out of the old plains. I did some intentional scuffing, denting and scratching to give it some instant age, mixed feelings about that, but think it will look good after a little more time in the sun. Another first for me was the horse hair tassel on the pin nocks, wrapped tight with elk back sinew and hide glue. Handle is brain tan buck skin stitched up with sinew, piece of elk leg bone inserted for a little rest. Rubbed some bone marrow from a buck I shot last fall into the handle leather, to give it some age and water protection. The last thing I did was carve some designs into the belly with a hot knife and sign it with a wood burner. It is finished with Beeswax, which is quickly becoming a favorite finish of mine. Rubbed earth pigment into the open belly grain and scratches while axing it. Burnished the entire bow heavily with a smooth stone after waxing it.
I really like how this bow handles and how well it shoots. Here are the specs:
60# at 27"
58" ntn
Tiniest pin nocks I have ever made.
Retains 1.5" relfex unbraced. Missing that photo as my friendly neighbor John popped over for a test pull as I was taking pictures of the bow.
This was a really fine piece of osage. It had a some wind check that resulted in a narrow, shortish stave after cleaning it up. But this wood rang like a steel bar when dropped on end on the concrete garage floor. Thanks Dean Marlow for the stave.
Thanks for looking!

Outstanding work Mr. Carson!!!
Profiles are great as usual and the finish work is super nice.
btw. , I see arrows growing in f/d pic - looks like Japanese Arrow Bamboo (pseudosasa japonica) to me. I also have some in my garden.
-
Cool one man. Less is more to a t. Well done.
-
Now I got the pics- sweet! :-D

Thanks for the comments guys. :)
Greg, he does not hunt, but will shoot it each year at a memorial shoot. In memory of a young man that he worked with.
Mick, I used dry heat all around on this one, Flipping the tips, and also a series of tweaking alignment through the limbs and handle.
Simson, That bamboo has gotten a bit big for arrow shafts in that patch, not sure the species, but there is a smaller patch behind it that makes perfect arrow shafts. I do not know for sure, but I think it is japanese arrow bamboo, very low nodes. All on my neighbors property.
