Title: vine maple bow
Post by: fiddler49 on May 29, 2015, 03:43:13 am
A friend gave me a vine maple stave about 10 years ago and I finally got around to making it into a bow. It had about 4 inches of de flex and some twist, which I removed most of with a heat gun. Bark was left on so I had to grind it off with angle grinder. It is 64 inches long, bend in the handle with simple side nocks, pulls about 45 lbs. I stained it with a blue Rite dye and rubbed some paste wax over it. Shot it this week end at our trad Memorial day gathering, 40 3-D targets. I probably shot 3 to 4 arrows at every target. The bow held up fine even drawing it my 31.5 inches. cheers fiddler49

Frankly I'm surprised it has held together this long after taking a grinder to the back. Good luck.
