Made a whole bunch from boards and bamboo and a few from white wood staves but somehow never from osage.
Glued up the deflex splice the other day and just tamed the profile and tip alignment with dry heat on my adjustable caul.
More to come later...

Neat caul- What's that in the background? Looks like an old mustang to me...
-
looking good so far.
-
Thanks guys.
The caul is nice in that you can accommodate different profile shapes and amounts of reflex.
And that's a keen eye JacksonCash. She a 65' I bought when I was 14. She use to be my everyday, non-winter, driver but then gas stopped being a dollar a gallon... ::)
-
Nice caul. I'm looking forward to seeing that bow finished up.
-
The caul is awesome but didn't come about as a plan. It started out as just the part on the right which worked great for reflexing and recurving, but I soon realized not being able to get your tip alignment and reflex at once sucks. I am NOT a fan of heating wood more than 3 times. Anyway, after whipping up a counter part to the first caul I realized how I could adjust it like this for different profile shapes. Very handy.
-
You're gonna like it! One of my favourite bows to make r/d osage....ummmm 8)
I thought it looked like a shopping cart.... ;)
-
Trying to copy me :P ...lol. the one I made at Marshall I lowered the weight and its gonna be my oldests new bow as he needs one. How much starting setback is that setup giving you? Hard to tell but I like a teeny bit more.
-
Copy...nah this one is gona look good...
I tease I tease. Your's looked awesome.
Yea, not a lot of set back for this one, I haven't flipped the tips yet though. But, I've been playing with different amounts of reflex and deflex for a while now. That bbo I had with me at Marshall doesn't have any tip set back by design. Not a super speed demon that way but very quiet and easy to hit what your looking at.
-
Yeah yeah caul and junk...now back to the important stuff, what's the old pony got for a motor? ;D
-
Haha...the motor is just a 289, but it has a four barrel Holly carb, functional hood scoop, and headers. She's a beast...with no power brakes or power steering...
The bow is coming along. Next up a little thinning and a rawhide backing as it has some thiiiin rings.

You have a shop in your tree house?
-
Duh...I live in a treehouse...
-
Id add at least 2-3" more inches of reflex mid limb out, if my opinion means poo to you that is.
-
Yea...I've seen you shoot so now any advice you give is now by the wayside. ::)
She will be a 2" circle hitting beast...
-
So whens the treehouse party happening, and we can put some more reflex into that sucka >:D
-
in the tree house pic the tips look pretty even with the handle i'd add some reflex too
-
More reflex
-
Its like more cow bell, but different.
-
Man, the reflex gestapo on here! It's not working tho, I'm still not adding more... ::)
-
I don't know diddly about R/D bows, but it's looking cool! Josh
-
Man, the reflex gestapo on here! It's not working tho, I'm still not adding more... ::)
Ok fine be that way
-
It'll be a nice D bow by the time you tiller, take the R off the title! :)
-
You just wait...this profile with barely budge even after I tiller
-
I don't know man, I've stopped at almost that exact profile and it's just not as satisfying as a couple inches of reflex.
-
seeeeriously guys....
I've made like 40 r/d bows and well over 130 bows... I can live with however this one turns out.
-
You mentioned you were gonna be flipping the tips still, so I'm sure it'll still be a screamer after that
-
just funning with ya geezzz whats a little constant peer pressure anyway ::)
-
I'm with you Bowmo. The profile looks good to me too. It'll be a very sweet shooter. God Bless

LMAO thats good Clint
-
Ok, finally finished this one up.
61" ntn 58# at 28" but I pull it to my usual 25-26" draw. Deerhide backed and bocote overlays. The billets came from different trees and are different shades of orange, so I named it 'Two Trees'
