This is the bow that i have worked on just a little every now and then and then put it back in the corner. its kinda the project, in- between projects, if any of you are like that too.
well its finished
un backed Osage recurve, 60 inches long 1 3\4 wide and tapers at the tips to 1\2.
tips are Black walnut. hand twisted string with muskrat silencers
i stained the leather grip with some black walnut hulls to give it kinda of antique look.
oh and its just over 60lbs @26"
she zips right along. but has that distinctive recurve sound, i like my recurves, but not like i love my whisper quiet longbows
i got 3 incrimental pictures of the draw, just to show the last couple inches, not sure why but i got'em so i'm gonna show 'em- Ryan

-
Love it!! Bet you're happy with finishing that one!! Those recurves just look so good, don't they?!
-
Well done. Justin

Looks like my kind of bow! ;D

frank
-
Well that's a stunner! I like your chair too ;D
-
very nice i love recurves
-
SEXY!!
-
The bow is cool and so is the chair -- did you make both?
-
thanks guys, unfortunatly i did not build the chair. an amish man did, it was a gift from my father, he picked it up in Blue Ridge Georgia.
-
Congratulations, that is a nice looking bow.
-
Very nice indeed. Good job on the tips. Got you bookmarked, too, for Feb Self Bow of the Month
Love your fireplace
-
That is a real nice example of a self recurve.
-

Sweet bow I really like the shorter recurves like yours. Nice job.
-
Nice job,love those tips. :)
Pappy
-
very nice looking bow
-
I'm not sure what I like the best...bow, chair, or the fireplace! :) I think the bow, with the fireplace a close second. Great job. ;)
-
thanks guys, unfortunatly i ran outa good recurve wood, so i will have to wait a few more months till my good osage and elm reach a full year of drying, which is just fine with me. lol
-
Mighty fine lookin' weapon, nice curves. That looks like some of that good red osage, too. I have several of those "project between projects" sitting around tha I hack at now and then.
-
Very nice! I hope mine turns out as nice. And by the way - that's some nice rockwork on that firplace, your very talented :).
-
great looking bow, great pictures.love the tips and handle wrap.well done.Hammertime
-
Gorgeous lines. I'm a 26" draw too and I'd love to pull back on that.
The bigger question is...When do we get to see a Build Along for a one piece recurve like yours?... :'(
Excellent work and I LOVE the fireplace too!

I think that bow is way too ugly for you to own. I think you need to send it to me...immediately! ;)
-
truly skilled craftsman MR.
-
Is that a pyramid style? Looks like the limb depth is uniform from the fades to the tips. How deep is it. You said 1 3/4" wide to 1/2" tips right? I like it.
I hate to be repetitive but the fireplace rocks. No Pun intended. Danny
-
thanks all, i dont know about a build along, when i get some more osage cured perhaps we'll see. Ryano would be the guy to ask for a recurve buildalong. he exceeds my recurve abilities.
also sawfiler and mechlasher stand out to me as great "recurvers" aswel
the limbs are 1 3\4 wide, from the grip to about 18-19 down the limbs and then taper to 1\2.
thanks for the fireplace compliments aswell- Ryan
-
That is outstanding! Well done. Jawge
-
Very nice bow. Well done
-
Exceptional both on the bow and the fireplace.
VB
-
...and yes of coarse the fireplace is really nice, too!
frank
-
Really nice looking bow Ryan!

a truely sweet recurve! of all the bow designs, that is my favorite full draw profile. if you thin those tips down to 3/8" or even 5/16" you might be able to quiet her down a little.
-
Magic eight ball says, "Thats a great looking weapon". ;D Well done.
-
mechslasher, belive it or not, it quieted itelf down. it seemed to work out the kinks and now doesnt make much noise at all.....go figure
kinda like the theory on arrows, i can make some from raw shoots and they fly all over the place but after 10 shots or so, they straighten right out, funny how wood can be trained
