Title: Black Walnut Heartwood

I have some really nice pieces of this. Has anyone ever made a selfbow out of black walnut heartwood?

No but I have the sap wood.It should work but it is really hard to chase a grain,it is so dense you can't really tell where it goes,at least what I have worked with was.You might back it wit rawhide or something or it might be OK.I just don't know for sure. ??? I am sure someone will chime in that
has used it. :)

Thanks! I'll try the sapwood and the heartwood. How did your sapwood bow turn out?

It turned out good,very flexable wood.I have somemore ,just ant got back to it.You gave me an Idea. ;)
