This my first attempt on a kinda flipped molly, or better kinked lever bow. Total length is 64” ntn, assymetrical, nock to lever kink is 12”, working parts of limb is 14” (upper) and 13” (lower), stiff handle section about 13”.
It was a very clean stave - only a few pin knots, but atwist of 40° side bend of 6”, a natural deflex on one fade (the other deflex is heated in). One hole in upper limb is filled with tinn as only decoration on that bow.
An additional growth ring at handle allows rounding the back and at the tips cutting in the string grooves in the back. Therefore it was possible to thin out the tips to 5 mm.
On the upper lever kink is a wiggle where I had a lot to struggle around but got it done.
The levers were flipped in a short bend to get an initial reflex of 2”, now holds 1½” nicely and I'm very pleased with that. The levers have no pronounced shoulders, I just let them a bit thicker to save as much mass as possible. When braced the string just lifts off the lever.
Believe me, to draw this bow is so nice and an ease, there is probably much more drawlength in it, but tillered it out to mine 28”. The weight there is 54#.

Most excellent Simon....She just flat spanks an arrow I'll bet.

Love those lever bows, and that's a nice one....

That just looks like it pulls smooth as silk. Well done Simon
-
Awesome. Have been wanting to try a lever bow. This design looks a little nicer to me than a standard molle. Are you drawing full 28"? If not I'd love to see how it opens up! Thanks for posting
-
Tell us more about the knot you filled, looks very interesting
-
Oh cool.....a Kinky Molly. Beautifully done! Love those thin tips. Very nice as always with your bows Simon.
-
Simon, great bow! You are very talented. Jawge
-
It's certainly a looker! My favorite molles are reflex deflex, really takes full advantage of the design and makes for the sweeeeetest draw and this looks like no exception 8)
-
That looks impossibly difficult. I am very impressed! Give me something to aspire to.
-
" Believe me, to draw this bow is so nice and an ease,"
Oh I believe it, I remember making a similar bow out of hackberry and it pulled super smooth, shot well too.
-
Those bows store a lot of energy, nice job on that one.
-
I'm getting tired of telling you how awesome all your bows are. ;DNot really though another beautiful bow. I wanna make one like that one day bet she is a sweet shooter.
-
I've got some 32" flight arrows I could PM them to you ;) With your great tillering I bet it would go all the way to 32" :o

Nice job, should be a screamer. :)

Well done simson.
Maybe this design is the best bow- design ever, those Inuit style skinny long tips provoque a
lot of early bending of the inner limbs. Pure energy savers.
Osage is a great candidate for this design, but I´ve done it with other woods too. Elm and rowan are working fine with it.
Shot with light arrows this design is almost not to outperform.
For further details and pics go here: https://redhawk55.wordpress.com/2014/06/29/new-bow/ and here: https://redhawk55.wordpress.com/2014/01/06/the-vorderheubronn-flightarrow-massacre/
But it is a delicious job to do, the transition of the bending area into the stiff tips seems to be the crux.

nice bow as always simon! :)
-
Thanks fellas for the nice compliments and your thoughts about!
The f/d pic didn't capture the fulldraw, but I thinl you see the tiller shape good enough.
Maybe this bow is a candidate for flight shooting, I'm always wonderind what have I to do that a bow becomes a flight shooter.
When I get more time (currently lot of bows in different stadium), I will make me some arrows with diff. weights to check out the qualities for flight shooting. Can anyone tell me what's the most light weigted arrow is on a primitive selfbow, of course I mean gpp?
The metal (tinn, melted in) holds in the hole per geometric, the side wall of the hole is concave. The knob is only in the bending side of the limb (back) not in the compression side (belly) to avoid fracture. The surface is polished, till it looks like a grown in nail.

SWEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Nice work I love the profile.
-
Beautiful work, Simon, as usual! I think I know how I'm going to make my next molle bow. 8)
Tschuss!

hi Simon, that`s a Beauty!, congrats and thanks

I'm glad to see there are men of courage out there stepping up to the plate with a challenge like this. As is seen here, your efforts have earned you rich dividends. Excellent job.

Very nice, and on a very challenging piece of wood. Well done!
