I just recently finished this bow up, i was originally going to use bison horn but ended up salvaging the gemsbok off another bow, it has three courses of deer leg sinew i got from osage outlaw with a maple core and osage and horn tips (http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/gregs%20bow/DSCN1312_zpskjxf1mdt.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/gregs%20bow/DSCN1312_zpskjxf1mdt.jpg.html)

Around mid 40's at 24" and i think 46" ttt i forgot to measure it, black rat snake skin over the sinew
-
The skin i got from Clint also, i put three layers of sinew down and then added two more in the inner third, it has around four inches of reflex so i filed in a extra string nock so i could use a stringer to brace it, seems to really fling an arrow and for the length i was around the ten ring shooting it in, fd coming
-
very nice bubby. I'd like to make one similar to yours. Can we see a full draw pic?
-
Thanks Pat, full draw is coming
-
Interesting bow! Makes sense to trap the horn belly in a design that only moderately stresses back and belly (for a horn-wood-sinew bow, that is).
Is there a particular reason you left the tips straight?
-
In the middle of the bow the horn was that wide, and i had a little work getting the outers to come around and they are still a hair stiff and i trapped the outers to acheive that, I'm sure you could get several more inches draw but 24-25" was all i needed
-
And the tips have a little flip to them
-
This bow showed up on my front porch today, I can't believe it's mine. Bub and I did a bow trade and I ended up with something really special here. When I opened the tube and pulled this beauty out I just couldn't believe my eyes. I mean really bubby, a horn bow in exchange for the plain jane I sent you.
I put a few dozen arrows through it before dark and it's smooth shooting and fast. I wasn't expecting that kind of arrow speed from this short bow and my first couple arrows flew 2' over my target at 21 yards.
Once I got the feel for it's advanced speed I was dropping 'em right in the pocket. Can't wait till I get home from work tomorrow and can shoot it some more. I'll get a full draw pic taken then and post it.
Incredible workmanship Bub, I can't put into words how much I like this bow or how happy and proud I am to have it for mine. A thousand thanks my friend, this bow will be well taken care of and also be well used. :)
-
What a beauty, Bub. Hope Greg brings it to next year's Classic!
-
Great job on the horn bow Bubby. It was fun watching it come together. That's a heck of a bow to get in a swap. Greg, you better bring it to some shoots so we can check it out.
-
You should be good to draw that 27.5 inches. >:D Nice bow Bubby, great work 8)
More reflex next time will make it a real arrow launcher >:D
-
I'm glad you like it Greg, it was a fun build all around, been wanting to get a horn bow finished and this build got me off my thumbs and there will be a few more in my future
-
Thanks knoll and mike i appreciate the comments
Thanks Clint i know i bounced a lot off you building this and its appreciated buddy
-
Sweet bow bubby
-
Thanks falcon
-
Nice job Bub! The best thing about it is that I will have a chance to shoot it considering it is only about 15 miles away from me as we speak. Hopefully Greg is nice enough to share a few shots
-
Way to go bubbly! Lucky you Greg. That sumgun best make the trip to Elm Hall in a few weeks, I gotta see it.
-
Thanks guy's, greg said its going to elm hall so you all will get your paws on it
-
Shot it some more today and then tried to catch the full beauty of this bow in the camera. No one home to help with the full draw pic. so I had to do it indoors with my set up in the den and the self timer. Drawn to about 23" I think. Here are a few of the 60+ pictures I took. :)
-
and a couple more including the arrows bub sent along with the bow and my favorite picture................... the one showing where Bubby put my name on the bow. :)
-
Your pics look waybetter than mine Greg

SWEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
-
yeah, really sweet 8)
-
Color me envious! That is a fantastic looking bow, anyone would be proud to have it.
-
What type of horn did you use?
-
Great job Bub....A real bute.Done a few of those myself here.Usually stiff handled bows.Usually takes me 2.5 to 3 months to finish one like that, but they'll be around a long time.Lots of reflex. They do hit hard for sure, and you bet it's nice to use a stringer....lol.I did'nt catch the length on that one.Surprisingly they do come in mass weighing under the standard mass weight for their length.
-
Broken arrow its gemsbok horn and the only problem with it that i can figure out is it is narrower than waterbuff horn so you are limited on that
Thanks Ed, i think it's 46" ttt and i think all packaged up it only weighed 14oz
-
Yea that's nice Bub.I just mentioned that because I've heard it conjectured that because of the composite materials people can think they weigh more that a wood alone bow.Not trying to start a controversy here. It's just a fact I've seen for myself first hand.
-
Guess that answers as to whether a horn/wood/sinew bow can be made without being bent like a crab when it is unstrung. That thing is crazy sexy. Bet it has a sting, too....not just pretty!
