Title: A few more I just finished up
Post by: Danzn Bar on July 16, 2015, 08:30:15 pm
Here are a few more I was straighten at Marshall
KY river cane shafts
Wild turkey fletching dyed with black cherry kool aid
duplex nail target points 145 gr.

These shoot real well from my 52# - 27" draw snakey osage bow. I'll be finishing it up soon and posting some pic's of it later.
Thanks for looking

I missed these, very nice. What do you have around the tip after the duplex points?

I wrap them with a very strong thread, then cut 5 minute epoxy with just a drop or two of acetone and brush it on for a armor finish to keep the thread from unwrapping.

Is the wrap behind the fletchings marabou? Aside from acting like a primitive lumi-nock does it have other functions? (also excluding aesthetics) I do like the look of it quite a bit and totally plan on stealing it.   :D

Kid,
Yes it's marabou I get from a local fly tying shop.  It doesn't effect the flight that I can tell, I only use it to see the arrow in flight much better and makes it easier to find the arrow behind the targets at 3D shoots.  :) ;)

Very nice, I've never heard of the Kool-Aid thing before (I'm still a noobie at arrow smithing) really like the effect though.

Great looking arrows DBar. Of course all your arrows are top notch! For everyone wondering if the little white "puff ball" affects performance; I would say no. I had the pleasure of running the coarse with him at the Classic and he was hitting the sweet spot nearly every shot! Another added benefit is if you let him shoot ahead of you, it gives you a nice little white spot to aim for!

Naw, that was you....  I saw it myself.  Not only does he make some of the finest looking arrows I have ever seen, he can hit with them too! ;)  That is another fine looking set you posted Bill.

We need to make a deal on some arrows big guy. I cant make anything like that, but want some! They look as good as the rest you pump out. Great detail work.

Super job, Bill!  I'm sure they look even better "up close 'n' personal".
What did you use to color the shaft & what protective finish was applied over the color?
