The "seed" is more like a pine cone. I first saw one of these at a friends house. The bark looks a lot like cherry. But it is for sure not cherry. My friends wife keeps hitting theirs while backing out of the driveway, so it is fair game if it is good bow wood!


EDIT:  The bark is more red than the photo depicts.

Alder - pinecone like fruits says alder to me.

Alder was my second choice.  If its alder it probably not good for bows.

This tree in particular is right off my train stop on my way to work. On my way to the platform today I saw they had cut most of them down lol.

I'm thinking a Birch Tree.....do a search for Birch Trees in your area.

I would say a type of Birch as well, they have the same type of fruit as on your tree.  I do believe Alder is a member of the Birch family.
