This one started as a 3-4" diameter Osage sapling cut on the family farm. It was seasoned 6 months in a hot shed attic over the spring and early summer. It's backed with the same patterned burlap I used for my "patterned jute backed red oak" a while back. I backed it cuz even though I tried to be careful, I violated a ring on a nasty pin knot in the middle of the upper limb.
Stats :
54" ttt bendy D-bow.
55# at 26"
Bottom limb 2" shorter.
1.5" wide to 10 inches from tips tapered to approx 3/8.
Patterned jute backing.
Hemp wrap on the ends.
Sisal handle wrap.
Red oak overlays.
Took some set. 2" give or on take both limbs
My shortest attempt thus far by 10 inches. It was a twisted, knotted, misaligned mess when I started. I used dry heat and it untwisted and align.
I feel like the tiller is off.. I was just getting really tired tiller eyes towards the end.
It has nice strong early draw weight and shoots fast, but does have a little thump on release. Not enough to be uncomfortable, but it's there. I can live with it. Hope to draw blood with this one in September.

I like it. No frills meat maker. Good job!
-
Found one more of the backing from the other day.

Simple but effective. Very nice bend. Indeed a no frills meat maker. 8)

Wish ya had that one avail to show at MoJam . . . am referring to the bow, not the shirt. >:D

Nice!.... Brian

Cool looking bow. I think your handshock is because the mid to outer limbs should be bending more.
-
Nice bend.
Now I remember seeing you at mojam, was your friends the one sleeping under the truck in the rain?

+1 on everything from here. That thing will make meat! If there was something I would do to fix the thump in the hand, I would thin the outer third width wise a bit. Just to lighten up the tips so it wouldn't have much mass out there. But man I sure like that bow! The only real problem is that my draw length is 27in! >:D Patrick

Nice short bendy.. :)

Well done, I like a simple D-bow

some of my favorite hunting bows were 25 26 inch draw,, looks nice congrats :)

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.
Looking at it now, I have to agree with everyone that says the shock is probably from wide/stiff outer limbs. I'm new to working osage and was concerned it would come in under my desired weight so I kept it wide for the majority of the limbs. Might mess with it a little, might leave it. Depends whether or not I get tired of the thump!
Falcon - My friend was the one under the truck with his legs out in the rain haha!
Knoll - I woulda brought it to MoJam for sure had it been ready but I just finished it up over the weekend.
Patrick - I'm pretty confident it would stretch to 27-28", but she took some set! I'm already putting the hurt on it somewhere so i better not push my luck!

That's ok buddy, I can shoot 26 just fine! Anyway Osage can go super narrow. I've personally done some just a touch over 1/4in wide at the tips. Osage is heavy wood, so keep your tips narrow and a good even taper, that will help reduce your hand shock! Patrick

I dig what you did there. Very nice!
