I made this bow for a trade that never ended up happening. I decided to fancy her up and call her my new bow. 8)
I cut this yew up the coast in BC, and I knew right away it was a special stave.
Coming from a 2-3" diam vertical branch off a large old tree. Super nice colouring, and very very dense for yew.
It started off with about an inch of deflex, and took not much set beyond that.
I had her originally at 70# at 26", but brought the weight down to a hair over 60#
Big Horn sheep overlays, cane handle wrap, 2 coats of shellac and 3 coats of tung.
Belly skins are from Cip, and they are red rat I believe.
59" ntn, 1 1/4' at the widest
Cheers guys thanks for looking

Wow buddy! That thing is beautiful! I love everything about it! Especially the belly skin on the back of the bow. The tiller is spot on too! I would hate to be the guy that fell through on that trade! Patrick

Dang Ryan that bow is cool. Love the profiles, length, finish work and bend. A real beauty all around and has your signature style written all over it.
-
Fab example of your mastery. Knot stickin' through skin is kewl!
-
Turned out real fine goat. Too bad for the other end of that trade, not sure why it didn't happen, but too bad for them. That is a slick stick man.
-
Great looking bow Goat. I'm a big fan of the belly scales. They look good on that yew.
-
Loiks great man, i have some belly scales i got from Clint gonna have to break them out
-
Awesome!
-
So sweet! I also love you photos in the forest. Add so much to the spirit of your art:)
-
That is a killer recurve Ryan.
Sounds like you found a nice branch. I still need to try a yew bow from a branch. And those belly skins are wicked!
-
AWESOME dude. Love the look of snake belly.
-
You done that stick all kinds-a justice! :o
-
Damn! Great job Ryan
-
Another fine piece of art! I love it.
-
Another sweet yew wizard. I'm loving every part of it.
-
Thanks alot guys. For sure if your snakes are big enough get those belly skins!
They seem quite a bit thicker too, I actually had to sand mine down a bit.
Carson, only my 3rd yew branch bow, but I find 2-3" branch wood to be as good as yew can get. The inner facing / tension side is usually
always the clear side, and usually super dense.
-
Wow....you have inspired me to find some belly skins.......
Really sweet looking bow.
DBar
-
Dang man, very Nice, as always.
-
Whoever backed out on that trades a fool! Very cool use of the belly skins.

great looking bow. The use of belly skins is a nice touch, well done!
-
Love this bow. The belly skin is a great touch. I always like to see what new idea you come up with. I just found a decent source of yew down here in "Oregun". Hope to post some pics soon.
-
>:D :P
Nice bow
Congratulation on the win. ;) ;
MadMax
-
Congrats Ryan! Well deserved! Patrick
-
Thanks guys!
-
I initially thought I was going to see a bow with skins on the belly, but those belly skins do look good. I bet it was somewhat of a challenge getting them to lay flat.
-
I've though about doing a full snake skin wrap on a bow, that would look awesome
-
Dude, You totally have to do a full skin wrap. Do a build-a-long so the rest of us mooks can see how it's done.
