Title: Looking for Tru-Oil
Post by: DesertDisciple on August 08, 2015, 02:40:22 am
Ive wanted to try Tru-Oil finish for years but unfortunately cannot purchase it. It is not distributed, nor can it be shipped to, the state of California.

Any Californians out there with an extra bottle (or three, or ten for that matter) who would be willing to part with any?

If so, PM me for trade possibilities.

Why can't Tru-Oil not be shipped to Cali?

I looked at the listings on ebay and didn't see where they wouldn't ship to CA. The little bottles cost about $9 with taxes at Gander Mountain so I usually get the stuff shipped to my door instead of going looking for it.

It has been banned in California but you might get a third party to ship some from eBay or amazon, i just started useing tung oil instead

Hey all, thanks for the replies

Ive attempted to purchase Tru-Oil 3rd party before, and though their listing may not mention it, they generally wont ship to california. Each time ive gotten an apology email and a refund. Im sure theres SOMEONE out there who isnt aware of it but I dont know how to find them. Haha. Go to Birchwood Caseys site and they have the disclaimer on the item description page.

As to why? No logical reason. Its California. Haha

ajbruggink- I got your pm and have responded. Thanks.

Like bubby mentioned, I notice very little difference from tru oil and tung oil. Not the thin real stuff, the (miniwax?) tung oil finish. Goes on very similar

Ill have to try it. Ive used BLO and wipe on poly but am always looking for new finishes. Isnt Tru-Oil just a blend of tung oil and other ingredients?

Ive also wanted to try the pure, raw tung oil. I know the drying time is horribly long but its supposed to be an incredible finish when fully cured. Anyone have experience with that?
