Title: Scalloped elm with sinew string
Post by: paulsemp on September 07, 2015, 06:16:47 pm
This piece of elm came from elm hall in 2014. Not sure if I posted this bow before I redid it. It's 59 NTN in about 42 to 45 @ 26. Finish is leather dye with birch bark handle in some sort of  fur wrapping it. Making a sinew string has always been on my bucket list. It's made out of deer back given to me from pearly. I've shot about 125 arrows off this string and I'm sort of impressed. I know there's a life expectancy but it feels pretty cool to shoot with a string you made from natural materials. Thanks for looking

What a cool bow.  Roll the clock back about 300 years and you'll be right at home.  Well done.  Keep us posted on how that string holds up.  I'm curious.

That's cool. Another sweet bow from your shop. Hard to believe that string was running free up here last fall.

Nice bow Paul! I really think sinew strings are a lot stronger than what people think, and they really don't take that long to make

Sweet primitive set up Paul, that string looks well made. Grab one of your turkey fletched shoot shaft arrows and that set up and kill ya a great lakes region deer this fall, man that would be cool.

Great Bow Paul - love the string ! I've always wanted to do the same thing, but I hate string making so much, never gave it a try. That Outfit should have some good medicine with it ! Bob

Thanks a lot for the nice comments 8) Don't think it will be a everyday shooter but i am enjoying it. Something about the string just feels right on a bendy. Little vibration and was thinking about putting some silencers on it. Anyone ever try that?

That's a great primitive bow right there.  I love seeing those scalloped bows, and paired with a sinew string, that is top notch.  Hats off to you.  Great work.

Great looking bow. I have also been using sinew strings, they do wear a bit, however I have found that you can sew a new strand of sinew in and around the worn spots to beef it back up. I have used this method for my loop and at arrow contact points to extend the life of my strings. Ed.

Thanks ed... that is exactly what I was wondering. My top serving as extra thick already but my nocking point is where I was thinking about serving it up vertically not going around the string. Thanks for the insight

Nicely done Paul. And wizard goat since you have that sinue string down so good. I could use a couple 69" sinue strings.  ;D   Arvin
