I recently finished my first osage selfbow and am looking for some feedback on what you fellas see. The bow is 68" NTN and pulls 62lbs @ 29". I stained the tips and handle area with walnut stain and finished with 6 coats of Tru-Oil. The handle is a leather wrap that I stitched with imitation sinew and I used antler for the arrow rest. I want to thank HunterBob for his advise along the way and to many of you on this site who I've learned a great deal from.

The last 4 pics. Thanks- Will

She looks good. Nice work on your first osage bow. 8)

Oh man, that thing looks terrible. You should send it to me so i can take care of it for you. I'll make sure it gets a good resting place!
Your finish work looks great! In about 5 to 10 years that Osage will almost match your dye once it ages! Nice first bow for sure!

Not too bad. Congrats on the first.
-
That turned out really nice. Good looking bow!
-
Good job. Are you a hunter, and will it get any action this season?
-
That looks great Will. One to be proud of for sure.

Thanks for looking, and all your comments. The PA site is an amazing resource for newbies like me. The stave I used had 3"-4" of natural reflex which for me was a real challenge to tiller. Before I realized it I had one tip much thinner than the other. I was close to my desired weight so I just decided to go with it. It hits hard and is very quiet on release, but does have some hand shock.
rps3 - I hope to hunt whitetails with this bow after I get more confident with it. Probably during our late season here in Pennsylvania.
Thanks again,
Will

Not bad. Just watch those whippy hingey bits in the outer limbs.

Fine looking Osage stick

Nice first bow...well done....+1 what patm said...next time try and get more bend in the inner mid limbs and near the fades.....
If your hanging out with bob im sure will meet someday...hes 10 mins from me,n i taught him how to build...well..i tried anyways.... :P   I suck at teaching

Thanks guys. PatM and Blackhawk I really appreciate your input. Helps a great deal.
-
Don't let blackhawk fool you. He is a wealth of knowledge. He likes to teach. He wI'll not do it for you but he will show you. If you get a chance to go to Blackhawks school of bow building do it.
-
That looks better than my first bow.
Good job.
-
Nice bow enjoy. Arvin

Great bow, enjoy!
-
Beautiful executed bow!
Great profiles, esp. the unbraced.
You had a great mentor.
-
Real nice job on that bow!
-
Looks like you got a good bow from that osage, nice work.
-
Excellent first bow. Patm and blackhawk are spot on. I really like the blended colors. It's been awhile since I've done that. Your bow makes me wanna give it another try.
-
Very nicely done. You might could get more bending out of the fades, but it's not bad at all. I really like two particular things, 1] the reflex in the unbraced pic shows that your limbs are not over stressed for the draw weight, and 2] your handlework is very clean. I would guess you are a leather worker, ...or should be if you're not. :D

I appreciate all the nice comments. Im currently working on another osage stave that previously served as a fencepost in Illinois. Im gonna try to shorten it to 64" TTT, but still shoot for 60# at my 29" draw length. Thanks again for all your comments.
