Title: d/r longbow "angular"
Post by: Lukasz Nawalny on October 04, 2015, 06:23:31 am
Last time I work a lot on this type bows. This one is hickory back, double ash core, ipe belly, 43 lb. On 9,3 GPP 28" shot near 190 fps on standard 18 ff nets bowstring with standard BH and silencers. On faster bowstring and low BH im sure can hit near 200

Never tried that style. And if I did I would want it to turn out like that one. Great job

few more. I make only wood or wood/carbon .

Been away for a while, but Lukasz I have often referenced yourangular bows from years ago. Really impressive.

I love the handle/riser on your bows.  Sleek, indeed, and the speed you're getting is really impressive.  Beautiful work.

excellent designs and exquisite workmanship...... what more could one ask for???

btw -I looked at your site and could find no other reference to any bows that use wood and carbon. when you use these two materials together, do you use the carbon for tension or compression?

Many year I have work only on natural materials but a lot of people prefer modern, so I start work on carbon. I dont like glass on longbows. I have made few experiments - carbon back ,  in core, on belly , 2 sides carbon. In this moment im close to use carbon only for backing.  2 sides carbon is very fast, but for me to agressive combination. Carbon inside of limbs increase stiffnes with theseme mass but its strange , effeciency is lower. Maybe hysteresis grow? For me carbon backing and wood belly give best results - bows are very fast, but not "crazy", and very smooth, quiet and comfort.

While this is a primitive forum I like hearing observations on modern materials. We were always told that a glass back and a wood belly would result in a crushed belly since glass doesn't have much stretch and yet you are successfully using carbon on wood.
 Carbon REALLLY doesn't stretch.

Pat, before I found out about primitive bowyery I had glass backed several bows with no issue. I think what happens is the neutral plane just moves closer to the back of the bow.

I am one of the lucky owner of 2 Nawalny bows, he actually made one of these in self bow, sinew backed. Super smooth and a joy to shoot. Very egyptian looking.

Funny but for this time I have better results on all wood bows. Maybe  I am  poor in synthetic materials :) Now I made few changes in angular form. Bows are a little more agressive and with small static recurve like classic egyptian bows. I have stronger bows with theseme mass and better energy storage. I dont have yet results but I think it will be interesting, I must make FD curve and good chrono test. Updates in next week
