My friend, Chris Rackley, has offered up his barn for a conclave! Similar to events Eric (OneBowonder) hosted in the fall. An opportunity to work on your projects with lotsa fellowship/advice/encouragement available.
Chris' pole barn is a big one and he promises to clean it up well, so there will be lotsa room for us. He has ample-sized stove in the barn, so we'll be toasty warm.
Chris' address is:
1300 Bell Rd
Wright City, MO
He's out in the country, but just several miles north of I70. Use exit #199. Go north off exit ramp to stop sign. West at stop sign to Bell Rd. North on Bell Rd. Easy-peazy.
Eats provided. Ya'll will be responsible for the libations!
Let those similarly inclined know what's planned.
Chris has a big ole Airstream (with heat) he's offered as accomodation. We can clear space in the barn for cots and sleeping pads. I have 2 spare bedrooms & live about 8 miles from Chris. So we have lotsa room for overnighters!
Mark your calendar and let me know if you're coming.
-
Libations are required right? I will be there.
-
Be there? Heck, I'd have left already if I didn't have to keep paying this danged ole mortgage thing!
This should be a good time y'all!
OneBow
-
We been workin a ton of OT but if it slows down enuff i will be there... Brian
-
I am going to do my best to make it out
-
I am going to try to make it for at least one of those days.
-
I'll definitely be there for this good old time! John, Eric, and myself will be coming up on Friday night! I hope some of those "libations" will be available when we get there! I wouldn't miss it for the world!
Patrick
-
Patrick I will be bringing a gallon with us. I sure hope some is left by the time we get there :o

I'm pretty sure Missouri has an "Open Container Law", ...so most of the gallon should make it to Wright City.

I hope so to! Patrick

Heh, all . . . . . One of Chris' wooded areas includes a target range and he's finding good bunch of rabbits have taken up residence too. So ya may want to bring some shooting gear.
Given all the rain we got, likely better bring pair of galoshes too. ???

BUNNY HUNT!!! WOOT WOOT!!!
OneBow
-
And if you're confident of gettin' your stick shootin' on Sat, then we can shoot it in Sun morning!
-
Mike do I need to bring one for you to tiller?
-
Oh I'm in for a bunny hunt! I love me some rabbits! I'm definitely going to try to do a little bit of that! Not quite sure what I'm bringing just yet. I have plenty to choose from. And a couple of kids bows that need some work. I plan on bringing my r/d caul with me. If things go well I might heat treat one to leave with Dave.
Does Chris have enough heat, I checked the extended forecast. Looks to be pretty chilly. I can bring a dual head propane heater if needed.
Patrick
-
If ya wanna bring a bit of extra heat, it couldn't hurt!
Am sure Dave would be grateful to have stave that's been formed on a GOOD caul. >:D But might wanna work on those clamping holes, unless wanna never hear end of it!
-
Mine works pretty sweet boys.
-
I'll do that Mike, that is if I get a chance before then!
I'll throw in my heater and a full tank of propane.

they call me bowwood,,,it's actually Chris here. I figured I needed to finally get on PA as a registered user rather than a guest. So yeah, Knoll, DVSHunter and myself are hosting this gathering at my place on 01/16-17,,,,hope to see a bunch of you. I spoke with the farmer that I lease from about busting some bunnies,,,,,he told us to have at it, so make sure to bring you bows, plenty of arrows and adequate clothing. We will be serving lunch(soup and sandwiches) on Saturday,,,,,,If you have any questions or comments about the event feel free to ask. Thanx,,,,,,bowwood(chris)
-
Took a "gathering" to finally get Chris on PA. :o He's such a social feller!
Welcome Chrissy!!

Welcome Chrissy!!
Good to see you on here Chris!
So no biscuits and gravy, sausage and eggs and bacon for Breakfast! I guess I'll have to cook breakfast! That is if everyone would eat in the morning? Patrick
-
I forgot to tell Chris that some of ya are arriving on Wed!! ;) ??? ;)
-
I think we are planning to leave springfield Friday eveningish! Patrick
-
actually was thinking bout doing breakfast Sunday morn,,,,I guess we do need to eat huh,,,,and I have seen a few of you shoot so I don't wanna count on ya putting groceries on the table with your bows. LOL. I can have the airstream setup and ready Friday night,,,,it always has a good supply of wool blankets,,,,,might not hurt to bring a bedroll/sleeping bag and your favorite pillow.
-
And, as reminder, there's 2 spare beds and 2 couches at our place .... just 8 miles from the action! Also, if ya bring cot or comfy air mattress, floor of Chris' BIG shop would be an option.
-
Hey Chris, if you will provide me what I need for kitchen utensils Saturday morning I'll bring some stuff to cook breakfast. Biscuits and sausage gravy, eggs and if anyone wants bacon let me know. I'm not a big bacon fan but if someone wants some I can throw it in to! Let me know.
If I could bring my .22 I would fill your pot with bunnies! I haven't hunted wabits with a bow in a long time.
Patrick
-
not a problem Patrick we can make it happen
-
Keep it up. We need more of these events cropping up all over the country and the rest of the world!

Good news .... especially the "be there the 16th" part!
-
I haven't completely fallen off the edge yet Mike, but it feels like I'm close. I've been trying to get the new house ready for inspection so I can drywall. I've been pulling wire, running plumbing, finishing framing... I am looking forward to this. I need a break if only for a day.
I'm glad your gonna make it Ed. I'll try and bring you a piece of the elm I have if you want some.
-
We'll wanna see pics of the house, Dave.
Gotta head up to Mom's again tomorrow. Likely taking a couple tools along and lil 27" sliver of osage. Maybe the stick will bend a bit by the time we get back home.
Hope to be back on Monday.
-
Travel safe Mike.
-
That's nice of you Dave.I do have one nice old stave of red elm but have been disappointed with red elm in the past, and there is a bunch of that growing here too.Looking forward to seeing people there behind the names on the PA.I went through that house building for six months last winter and spring.A lot of choices to be made that's for sure. One project at a time it'll get done.At least you got er buttoned up and can work inside now.
I plan on doing some shooting, some looking at peoples' bows, and generally trying to remember peoples' names.
-
Yep Jon still got it 👍 its a great bow at that.... I have to work up to it to get to full draw, lol... Brian
-
OK - I had to make a few adjusts to my countdown timer spreadsheet, but now I have the formula down and have set it up to tell me how long till the Wright City Gathering, the Tennessee Classic, Marshall MI gathering (aka-MiniBow Armageddon), OJAM, and of course MOJAM.

Directions to the "Gathering" 1300 Bell Road Wright City MO exit 199 Hwy 70, at that exit there is a SHELL convenience store/McDonalds, proceed West on North outer road, from the Shell station go approx. 300yds to Bell Road(American Bank on corner brick building) make a right onto Bell road, from that point, go 3.7 miles north to my driveway, there is the tall ornamental grass, a log with RACKLEY carved into it and you can see my RED shop from the road(depending if you can see or not. LOL) call or text me at 314/606/2595 The AIRSTREAM sleeps 3 and will have it warm and cozy,,,,7 days and counting. I will be spending this weekend getting the shop a little more "user friendly"(cleaning it up) and making sure the range and targets are setup and ready. POSSIBLY have a little entertainment lined up for Saturday evening,,,,if not we will just have to entertain ourselves

Do I need to bring some of your wood?
-
That won't be necessary Mike. I have aged thing I need to get finished before I move and I have very little free time to tackle anything that size. 8)

not sure who's directions you are following but can tell you from driving that trip many times it is faster to take hwy 5 or 6(cant remember for sure) north out of Lebanon to hwy 54 to hwy 70,,,,for whatever that is worth. safe travels my friends.
-
Thats hwy 5 Chris. Is it really quicker than taking I44? Patrick
-
yes sir Patrick,,,,taking44 would be fine if you didn't have to bring hwy 47 and 50 and stoplights and little towns and nasty road,,,5-54-70 is all 4lane and good road. I have driven both ways numerous times and 5-54-70 is probly 45min faster now that you bypass all the lake area
-
Cool! Google says that 44 is 5 min faster and 220 miles. And by going through the lake and Jeff it's 330 miles and 5 min slower than 44. But I think I will take your advice Chris, besides I grew up running around a good bit of that area down below Jeff city.
Patrick
-
I'll get there around noon or so of saturday for sure. She'll be a little chilly but counting on it being about 5 degrees warmer down there with you southern boys.Warm enough to work and shoot with no gloves.I'll keep shoulder and arm warmed up I figure loosing arrows. From Corydon,Iowa I'll take 2E. to 63S. to 70E. to the exit.Hammer down and steady.

Lookin like i have Friday off work... My plan is to hunt inda mornin(last day of the season) then get rounded up and head that way... I will be traveling light as most of my stuff is in storage but i think i can bring a couple sticks to play with...hope i can find my tools, lol.... Brian

40, north of I-44, at night is not the funnest road. Reminds me of Arkansas. >:D
Good to hear you're gonna make it, Brian!
Everybody . . . drive safe!!!!

Starting to get just a little too excited to get going that way! How am I supposed to sit here at work and concentrate when I have fun stuff to get ready for??? It reminds me of game day Friday's in Highschool. The gang began to arrive Friday night. With travel being quite the adventure for Pat (lebhuntfish), Jon (JonW), Eric (onebowonder), and Josh. But will leave details for story-telling around rendezvous campfires this spring, summer, and fall.
By late Fri eve, 8 had arrived. Most decided to make it a near-all-nighter. Lights didn't go out til 'bout 5 am. Eric, Pat, and Jon got a few hrs sleep in the warmed up Air Stream. Josh and I went to my place. Brian (Koan) slept by stove in barn. Dave (DvsHunter) left just in time to work on the new house he's building.
Saturday dawned clear/brisk. Energy level was still high. Breakfast was great in Rackley's home. Ed (Beadman) rolled in from Iowa. Couple of Chris' (bowwood) fellow UBM members showed up. At least one of Chris' neighbors stopped for the day. Yes, the barn was a bit crowded, but thanks to everyone that brought benches/tools, everyone could do their thing. Highlight of afternoon was shooting the range that Chris and his family had setup. Think it was about 12 challenging targets, including a rat and Fred, the zombie. Lights out was at a more reasonable 2 am.
Sunday we awoke to fresh snow! It was Pat's turn to shine at breakfast-making .... egg casserole was outta this world! The fun continued, though there were fewer in attendance. Keeping warm in the Air Stream on Sunday night was bit of challenge, but the fellas were up to it. Josh was wise to choose another night at my place. ::)
Thermometer read -1 Monday morn! I did the breakfast thingy Monday morning .... took 'em all to Dennys!! Then there was the big pack up and heading to home.
Everyone seemed to have a good time. I had a blast, learned a bit more, laughed alot, and got caught up with this great group of friends. Huge kudo goes to Chris and family for organizing this wonderful weekend!!!
Now, for a few pics.
Chris' neighbor, Greg, stopped by to work on his bow. Jerry, Chris' dad, was only too willing to provide coaching. :o

Had a great time fellas! Looking forwaed to many more. MUCH thanks to Chris for the generous hospitality.
-
What a GREAT weekend! Those in the know, know that I am a much better bowyer than an archer, and my bowyery is middling at BEST! However; I got talked into shooting the 3D course and had a GREAT time doing it. I figured I couldn't embarrass myself too badly among such friends. I shot poorly as usual, though perhaps a little better than other times.
The entire weekend was a BLAST. I'm a bit sore today, and the steaming HOT shower last night felt like heaven itself, . . . . . . but I would run back out and do it all again next weekend if I could.
Chris and Rackley Clan, I offer our appreciation for the opportunity to use your toasty warm shop, and enjoy your gracious hospitality. The Veggy Beef Soup was exactly the right soul and belly warmer!
Mike, you have a far nicer lady for a wife than you likely deserve! It was great to meet her at Breakfast yesterday. Let us know if she consents to import a bunch of Guava staves during her Hawaiian Cruise vacation and we'll arrange to do some kind of trade... >:D 8) ::) ;)
...Oh, and Patrick, thanx a ton for driving without swerving when that 'flying chip board storm' came crashing down. We are fortunate to be alive and unhurt and that's not an exaggeration at all! Hopefully your truck can be made pretty again.
And last but certainly NOT least, JonW - Thanx for all the Peaches and Corn!!! They made everything feel better after the chip-board storm. 8)

You're very welcome, not quite sure how I did that but I'm really glad everyone was unharmed. Yeah, thank you John for the nerve calming peach juice!

Sounds like a good time had by all, will this be an annual event?
-
Looks and sounds like a good time. Thanks for sharing.
-
It was a Great weekend and yes I am thinking this may turn into an annual thing
-
. . . . will this be an annual event?
Will likely do it again here at Wright City. Will also likely be return engagements at Springfield. Am aware of several similar events in midwest.
Wouldn't it be neat if such casual events became even more numerous?

One of Chris's beagles had a sore paw. So the bow work stopped for me. I have a big soft spot for a beagle.

Hopefully, Josh doesn't post his range-shooting pics. ::)

Good to see that everyone had such a good time. Making bows in the cold just seems so...
Different. ???

I just remembered that I did manage to take 1 picture while at Wright City. It was not a bow, but at least it was tastefully done! ;D ;D ;D
I'm given to understand that this was made by Miss Carol, the kindly Lady-friend of Mr. Knoll. It had a fresh Strawberry and jello top, a light cheese-cake type filling, and a crunchy pretzel crust on the bottom. Mike apparently tried to keep it all for himself, but his Missus caught him in the act and obliged him to share with the rest of us the next day. We're all real glad that she did so...

Oh man was that good!
Knoll, could you kindly ask your Misses if she would share the recipe please?

Eric missed his true calling . . . to write for one of those "food" magazines. 8)
Here's an engineer's approach to food recipe . . . . . >:D
Ingredients:
2.5 cps crushed pretzels
3 tbl sugar (for crust)
3/4 cup butter
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup sugar (for topping)
12 oz Cool Whip
1 6 oz pkg Strawberry Jello
2 cups boiling water
10 oz frozen strawberries
1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced up
some additional whipped cream or Cool Whip for garnishing (optional)
Topping:
add boiling water to jello & mix well.
add frozen/fresh strawberries to jello & place in fridge to cool.
Crust:
melt butter & add 3 tbl sugar.
add crushed pretzels & press into greased 9x13 pan.
bake 10 min @ 350; then cool well.
Filling:
combine cream cheese & 1 cp sugar & beat well.
add cool whip & spread over cooled crust.
Top pretzeled crust with the filling.
Top crust/filling with cooled/thickened jello.
Refrig until firm (approx 2 hrs).
Top w/ cool whip or whipped cream (optional).
ENJOY!

Right about now I'm wishing I was back in Chris's shop space knocking back big swigs of Peach shine and Irish Whiskey. Scraping on an Osage stick and gluing up some antler or bone overlays while being warmed by a glowing wood stove! Sure sounds better than cutting in a new floor in my basement (...this weekend's project.)
