Title: Little bit of character osage bow. now with full draw PICS
Post by: Jesse on February 17, 2008, 07:09:51 pm
This is an osage orange bow from billets. Its for my wife Angie its 62 ntn  African blackwood tip overlays. The handle riser started to seperate slightly so I wrapped the whole thing and it worked like a charm. Maybe a bit ugly but its not going to break. ;D Full draw will be tomorrow after the finish cures another day.  Thanks for looking

Looks like you have your fade outs too abrupt. This is what caused the handle to lift. If you made them 1 /12" or 2" long instead of short, your handles won't pop off.

Thanks. The reason it got a little seperation is because I had less than3/4" of osage to work with so there wasnt much for fades.

I  just measured it and its 1/2 " at the thickest part of the osage and thats how thick it was when I started so I didnt have much to work with :o. The fades are 1 3/4 long. Also I dont think this handle would have come of. It got a little seperation at the glue line on one side when I bent it backwards ;D The wrap is just insurance.

Yup yer right, she is much easier on the eyes ;D Tilller looks good. Well done.

Hide the Muskie when I come pick ya up for the classic, that skin would look great on a bow.

Thanks Oldbow
Thanks Dana It was a little tricky for me tillering it because of the humps and bumps and curves but for my first osage I am happy.
She would kill you if she caught you with that musky :D She caught it on 8# test on a telescopic pole in a row boat with no landing net. Its 30# 48".

Thanks hillbilly  :D :D
Thanks Fb  Loki yes the musky is the big fish. This is actually a tiger musky which is the natural result of a northern pike breeding with a silver musky it makes a beautiful fish but they are not capable of reproducing.  This is very big for this type of musky. The world record was caught a few miles from this one in 1919 it was 54" this one is 48"    Jesse

Thanks Bowmo. I realy like the African blackwood. It looks a lot like ebony but with brown streaks. It is hard as a rock also but not as brittle as ebony. I bought a pen blank for $ 1.50 should be enough for many bows.

Nice bow, that musky is sweet too.  Now if we can get rid of this snow and get out shooting, we just got nearly a foot of snow on sunday, you must have got close to that.
