Finished these three the past six weeks, two 56"ntn osage and one 58" hhb. I've been on a sort of deflex/reflex kick, these 3 are bendy handle designs. The osage with the red handle is 44# @ 24". osage with green is 50# @ 25" and the hhb is #47 @ 24".
Two of them aren't particularly fast but shoot smooth and accurately for me. The third one with the green tips and handle seems faster and hits the mark but I haven't shot this one beyond my 10 yard target in the shop yet so I need to test it outdoors. It was made for a friend and I want it to be a decent performer for him.
Dry rubbed powdered earth pigments used for the colors, rubbed into the wood and leather with a scrap piece of hide. Used a matte spray finish over the leather to the color from transferring to the hands. I used a little acrylic paint in the scallop notches and at the tips on the hhb bow. Still not real confident on tillering d/r profiles so any tillering critique is welcome.
Thanks for looking

I like them all, but that scalloped bow is sweet!!!
-
Thanks guys, I'm trying to challenge myself lately and the bow making has been fun. Been cranking a few out and still so much to learn. Got some advice from a skilled member here on getting more bend into the handle area on my bendy handles and thats my focus now.
-
Man super cool looking bows Greg Beautiful finish as usual. Look like fun shooters. Chuck
-
Those look terrific BB. The tiller looks superb. I'm going to have to try another bendy handle bow.
-
Those are some classic Badly Bent bows. You have a style all your own. They look great.

Dito!
Always wonder how the scalloping influences the tiller? Would you do that AFTER tillering??
-
VERY NICE BOWS. GREAT DESIGN.
-
Looking real good Greg!
I've seen that HHB in person. It is very clean and very sharp. Typical of Greg's work.
-
3 such beauties in just 6 weeks? I'd say you have the r/d idea down mighty well. Congrats!
-
Very nice bows!
-
Awesome x 3! 8)!

Three great looking bows, and I like the scalloped bow best too.
-

-
Great looking bows Greg. Impressive work.
-
R/D by BB x3 brilliant work from thee. Also wonderin about the scallops, during or after tillering?
-
Wow man!! I love those bows and the detail work!
-
Drool! :P
As always your bows are simply magnificent. Getting three in one post is a real treat! :D
-
Superb!
I have a mental block about making handles wider than they are thick. My bow hand just hates how it feels, but it sure looks like it would open up some possibilities to make interesting stuff.
-
Wow Greg you have out done yourself on those three....they are sweet.

Nice! I see your adjustments are working out. Fantastic tiller bud.
-
Yeah, those bends look perfect to me. Beautiful bows. The style, the bends, and the finish work are all exceptional. Very cool.
-
Excellent BB bows, no need to sign your work. Your bows are a classy for its own.
Love all three, I see no way to crique the tiller - all is fine brother.
Also like your spare sophisticated finish work!
-
Beautiful bows really like the green tip one Great work !
-
They look awesome, great job
-
sure look extra beautiful when bent, excellent job!
-
They all are unique in their own way....I've got a couple bows I'm crafting right now that I'm hoping come out as good...similar designs. I may have to steal a couple of your touches...well done all around sir!
-
Love the profile of these bows, did you loose much reflex in tips after tillering? I have some hhb and think I'll try that out. Great job.
-
OK, now who was the guy who told me he needed to cut back on his bow building? ;) Not happening buddy. Great, classic looking Badly Bent bows right there!
-
Thanks for the feedback fellas, always nice when other bowyers are appreciative of ones work.
Medicinewheel & Stiksnstones - I cut in the scallops just after I have it bending some at floor tiller and then proceed to tiller from
there. Not sure if that is the best way but thats how I do it. The cabinet scraper will want to dig
ripples on the belly at the scallops so I switch back to a fine file and block sander often to keep
everything smooth.
Jon- I think I'm getting there. Focusing on the amount of bend in the handles sure made for smoother shooting at least on these three and the deflex handles make 'em draw like silk. I'm glad you brought that to my attention my friend. :)
Cody- You think I may have an obsession with bow making? ;D
-
clewis- I had a difficult time adding the reflex in the hhb bow, 3 sessions with heat and steam and it didn't hold much when done.
Also lost some tillering, the osage held much better.
-
Nice Greg, they all look good. Nice bends in all of them.
-
You did good on those three, Greg. I have to stop and build bend in the handle bows for a while, after making the stiff handles. They are relaxing and fun.
-
I dig them all. I need to take that scalloped out for a test ride
-
Yeah, it would be a hoot to exercise the osage one that's not spoken for ... assuming that's still the case at end of April!
-
Those are just beautiful Greg! Your work inspires me! I'm working on a bendy handle recurve right now. I hope it turns out half as good as yours did.

Like already said, can see those are Your Bows at a glance Buddy ! Simply outstanding - Bob.
-
Each one beautiful! That new handle wrapping is so Indian, where do you get your inspiration? Love the Scalloped bow! Great color on that one. :) thanks for taking the time to post.
-
Wow! You've been busy! They're all beauties, but yeah...the hhb with the scallops...that one really lights my fire! Josh
-
Great motivation and great job!
