Title: New from sunrise side of Michigans thumb
Post by: bjrogg on March 21, 2016, 10:08:37 pm
Hello I'm Brian I've been visiting this site for about a month as a guest decide to register. I started flint knapping last summer then started building arrows then bows. I built 4 bows broke 1st tilering by Emerald ash bore hole was really just practice bow. 2nd shoot about 150x broke by hinge off handle. Everything I learned was from you tube then I emailed Marc Ironwoodboyer I really apreciate all his help hope I wasn't to much of a pest.3rd bow rawhide backed ash bow 64" n-n pulls 56#@26". I shoot it about 300x before backing but decided I wanted a little insurance so I backed it shoot another 200x since. 4th bow is HHB bow for my grandson 39"n-n pulls 6#@20.5" built some little arrows for it too. I use forsythia for shafts and Red Dogwood fore shafts. Little arrows copper wire hammered folded over soldered shaped to broad head and inserted like foreshaft I'm not very good on computer but I keep trying not sure how to post pictures or even if I'll get this posted right

Welcome to PA.  There is a selfbow shoot in Marshall, MI this summer.  I'm not sure how far that is for you but it would be a good place to learn from some of the best.

I'd really like to go it's probably 3.5 hrs I think I'm by Harbor Beach live 1/2 mile off Lake Huron. If I make it this year I can't stay Sunday have 4-H groups summer picnic at our property that day. There's a longbow invitational by Hasting in August how's that?

I haven't been to the Hasting shoot.  I'm in the southern edge of IN so making it to Marshall is a good haul for me.

Plenty of camp space always available. Its a quaint, yet "star studded" event. There is a Saturday evening meal provided. You will need to bring whatever else you may want to eat, drink or sleep in/on. If you visit the events section below you will find a thread started with lots of comments.

Yep....I might get a lot of opposition with this statement, but, IMHO.... Marshall has the bigest concentration of the best bowyers for the amount of people attending of any of the primitive gatherings known on this site.  ...... JMO  but everyone has one.. ;)

Here is the post from last years Marshall shoot.  There are several pages of pictures.  It will give you an idea of what kind of event it is.

Marshall is well worth the drive for any amount of time you can spend there. Everyone is freindly and helpful. Matt Wirwicki has a selfbow building area at the GLLI shoot at Hastings in August. I'm in the thumb also, south of Lexington
