I have a large Beaver pond behind my house which is pretty well dead. The pond is about 150 yards wide by about 400 yards long. To the South is another pond, this one is active, separated by a narrow strip of land. Game animals like to hang around this pond, which is almost dry now, and I have been meaning to build myself a tree stand alongside it for awhile. The weather was cool but nice so I decided to tackle it last week. Took me a couple days to build it, this is a picture of the stand almost done

I finished it a few days ago and we were having such nice weather that I decided to go and sit on it for awhile, I was going to bring a camera but forgot it. As I was sitting there I heard a bit of a loud noise to my right. I looked over and there was an adult Moose walking along the narrow strip of land separating the 2 ponds. He knew I was there and stopped to look at me for a minute, I was kicking myself for forgetting the camera. Once he satisfied himself that I wasn't much of a threat he kept on going making a lot of noise along the way. I had taken some pics of the surrounding as I was building the stand and the next pics show his path. He disappeared over the ridge in the last pic which is about 250 yards away. I think this is an auspicious beginning to this stand.

Entirely auspicious, that's a wonderful break in for the stand

Beautiful view, Marc. A stand that big I'd have a lawn chair and cooler with an umbrella. I could sit there all day reading a book while I waited.

It is indeed lovely up there Eddie and I will make it a bit more comfortable but up here an umbrella is not what you need during hunting season, more like a good pair of gloves and insulated boots
The stand is set up for rifle to the front and sides but behind me is good for bow hunting

I brought one of my rifles out there this morning and set up a target at the far end about 250 yards away for a test. I was satisfied with the results after a bit of sight adjustment

Very nice work. Good time to be out and about. Thanks for the pics.

Now that looks comfortable , and not bad shooting either. :) That spot should be productive. :)

Hear! Hear! Most auspicious, indeed!

Let's hope that moose doesn't tell his friends about it tho.. :D

No plans for a roof, yet.
My first 2 shots nicked that small Maple hence the sap flowing down the trunk

Nice tree stand.
Probably be some game hanging around thew waters edge if there was water.

Looks like a great spot, Marc. I like your design.

The older I get the more I enjoy my view from stand than the critters that walk around it. You chose one helluva a nice view, Marc.

I didn't want to drive any nails into the tree as that usually kills them in a few years so I opted for rope and a separate support
I like sitting and just looking around as much as the hunt itself as well Chris
