Title: Osage Reflex Question
Post by: Stick Bender on May 06, 2016, 05:02:03 pm
Hi guys  I'm working on my first osage bow it's basically a Cherokee D bow style , I have it worked down to a very ruff floor tiller still thick barley bending I was planing on working on it tomorrow  scrape it down more but as showen in the pic it has a slight deflex in the limb showen , I was planing on dry heating in some minor reflex on the outer limb  to even it up about 6 in. In from the tip , what time frame would you wait before resuming floor tiller ?

24 hrs on the caul seems to be the general consensus from what I've read on here. some guys said they let it "rehydrate" for a few days even when it's just on the tips

The wood can come off the form as soon as its cool. Heat plastifies wood - once the heat has gone it ain't plastified anymore!
I wouldn't add reflex just in one tip as it will change how that limb bends compared to the other. A nice gentle reflex along the whole limb is a better idea.
