A backhoe to dig taters. Your lucky my wife didn't see this photo Don. She is the daughter of a potato farmer here in Michigan. She hand dug many hundreds and hundreds of pounds of taters with a pitch fork. I hope to have her at Ridge this fall as she retired last month. I will let her explain that digging process to you then, LOL

Nothing wrong with mashed taters Pat. ;)
Actually it's good practice for accuracy.
Not only getting under the taters but shakin
off the soil and then dropping them in the bucket.
Kinda like a video game. Diesel exhaust is good to keep the knats away too.

This years Gut. A little small but I was tired of fighting the bugs.
I still have the healthier plants to dig.

Jeb, please don't tell your wife. It's just a tiny hoe anyway.

Actually the taters are the only thing in the garden the venison don't eat.

It's funny how a backhoe or excavator can just become an extension of your body. Kinda like shooting instintive you don't think about what levers to move just what you want the bucket to do. I saw a guy on you tube "undress a woman" not totally but very good operator. I like putting my taters sliced up with butter, onions, mushrooms, maybe a few veggies in tin foil and cook them in their own steam on grill. Put the steaks on when the taters are about done
