A guy on TradGang posted a build along on a feather burner. I think he made it for the St. Jude's raffle on there. I think the components were pretty cheap and easily found.   You can make one using an electric soldering gun as the power source.

Has anyone made one from a bread toaster. I've been thinking of trying it

Hey guys. A few months ago I would of for sure made one. My shop time is very limited these days so what ever time I get I prefer to spend it on bows.
I need to make a butt load of arrows right now.  150$ for a new one is pretty steep!
Just seeing if anyone had one they'd maybe trade.

Geez Goat, I see them all the time around here.  I have one, so I never pick them up.  I'll keep an eye out.

It can be rough for a new Dad to find some quiet time to work. My kids are a lot more independent at this point, so I find myself getting to do more of my own stuff lately. If you don't have your heart set on a store bought one, I can build you one. I have all the parts on hand even. Shoot me a PM, if you continue having a hard time locating one.

I would be willing to make you one and send it to you. That is if you can get a 12 volt battery charger. It took me about an hour last time.

Pretty simple,  too just have to bend the guitar wire to the shape you want.

They stink like heck when you are using them, so use it outdoors on a breezy day!  But if you are cranking out arrows in production, they are an amazing timesaver.  Love mine even if the archery shop guy spent 5 minutes explaining why he didn't want to sell it to me.  Finally asked him who else I should call to take my money since he didn't want it too bad. Twelve years and still using the same wire (it came with two).

Too bad you didn't live closer, you could just come over and use mine whenever you wanted.

lebhuntfish, I would really like to see a few more pictures of how that feather burner is rigged and made. I have a trickle battery charger. Not sure it would work. I would also think that using a 12 volt charger it would burn up the charger. Would a 12 volt car battery work???

Thanks

Ill try to get some more pictures.  But it's as simple as it looks.  You do need the 12 battery charger though. It needs the constant resistance to heat the wire red hot.

Check out bubbies post in this thread.  Pretty much what I made. I think I used this plan.

I put my charger on 6 volts when I used a homemade one.  I used a set of jumper cables and my car battery before I got a charger.  I just unhook the clamp after each arrow.

Sorry guys I missed a lot of this. I think I figured out a way to use my wood burner. Was going to use a burner pen we never use, and solder on a wire. Fix it all to a jig, my wood burner set has a dial to turn up the heat and down, and it does get red hot so I figure it should work?

Post some pictures when you're done Ryan.
Sounds like it will work to me!

if you're removing the actual heating element of the pen and replacing it with the burner wire, then yes it will work.

i'd question if soldering directly to the element would give even heat throughout the burner wire though. also, if the wood burner element gets red hot, it could melt the solder points if turned up too high.

Hmmmm a wood burning pen is just an open wire really. I'm just going to extend it a bit, I'll post pics when I make it.
