Title: Cheap and effective scraper.
Post by: DuBois on July 14, 2016, 03:04:38 pm
Paid $6 for it at Menards.

Filed each edge to a different bur so got 4 in one. Smoothed off corners a bit. Thick steel; large and easy to grip.

Really takes off nice ribbons.

I worked in Indiana for 8 months and Menard is a great store!!  An old pair of scissors works well too.

Did you cut it down or leave it full size? I'd cut that into at least 4 pieces. I've made scrapers from various things, but my favorites have always been those that were meant to be what I use them for.

I buy a 100 pack of razorblades. That gives me very sharp edges for hundreds of hours.

What type of replacement blade is that, DuBois? Sorry, can't red the label. Looks good.

Also handy is an old file with the teeth ground off and then stoned flat to a turned edge. The hardness of the file really keeps an edge.

I also round the two end corners of the file to 2 different radii -handy for scraping spot areas near knots, hollows, etc. I keep a narrow file handle on the tang end -- a file scraper can be used two handed or one.
