Title: how many 18/3 linen strands
Post by: stuckinthemud on July 23, 2016, 11:23:28 am
Hi All.

I am twisting up a few 50# strings out of 18/3 linen waxed thread.  I used 12 strands for the first but it looks very thick; how many strands would you use for a 65" ntn 50# self-bow?

I always test breaking strengh and go 6 times the bow weight. If I rememeber right I used about 28 strands of 18/3. linen varies a lot in strength so you really do have to test. If you have a string follow bow about 4 times bow weight should work.

I've made 18/3 strings with 16 strands. I'd definitely test it. I've used 12 strand and it broke on me.
