I thought you may like to see some UK primitives. Phot taken at a recent SPTA shoot.
I'm second from left with the ridiculously long arrows and axe made ash bow.
Second from left is am amazing bow made from Ivy.
On the far right is a replica of a US Native bow but I forget the details.
A great bunch of guys, the fledgling UK Primitive movement
-
Excellent!!! 8) motley looking bunch like the US variety. ;D Got any other pics of the ivy bow and more details. Is that English Ivy? Pat
-
looks like a rogue bunch of warriors to me ....lol those are some fine looking bows... thanks for sharing.. Mike A/ho
-
Mark, well your certainly a happy bunch ;D. Lot of nice looking weapons there. That gent on the far right - who is that? I've seen him before..
-
pretty cool.
-
You guy's sure look like ya'll are having fun, like Cowboy said. That bow on the far right looks like a gull wing. Nice bows, Mark.
-
Hi, What part of the UK are you from and where do you shoot? Thanks for your time.
-
cool! wierd seeing guys from the uk without the warbow style in their hands ;D
-
They all look happy because they have been to the beer tent. We can't even bring own to archery shoots(ceptin Pappy's) much less have a beer tent! >:( Pat

Cromm,
The shoot was down near London within the M25. I think many of those who came had come from a fair distance away though.
My club is in Kent near Rochester. Send me an email at markdesignhill@aol.com if you want to be put on the email list for our primitive archery and atlatl events.
Pat,
Sorry, haven't got any more pics or details of the Ivy bow. It was amazing to look at and failry low in draw weight for it's size but it did make a shootable bow.
Cowboy and Mullet, yes the bow on the far right is a gull wing, hawthorn if I remember right. I think the guy has been over the the US so maybe you met him.
PatB, We hadn't been to the beer tent, we are just happy because we know all the good beer is on this side of the Antlantic!

Nioce arrangement of bows and bowyers!
-
Mark, I would like to test your beer theory and make my own judgment on that some day. ;) Pat
-
Which one is Robin Hood?
-
Thanks Mark. What are those long arrows for? You'd hardly need a bow, just stand there and poke them at the target.
-
do you guys have a dresscode there that is very formal and asks for a lot of changes betwenn shooting rounds???

Frank, I was wondering about that also. ???
-
I beleive that the Long arrows are for an atlatl...and the Clothes are part of the SPTA Shoot/ Rummage Sale Event........ >:D >:D
Just a Joke Son....No Harm Intended :o

Lot's of "Primitive" smiles. A-1. Hey, I take exception to that beer remark.I live about 30 miles from Juneau,Alaska. We got a brewery that makes wonderful beer.Tell you what.....you bring your best and come on over and we'll have a little tasting at the alaskan brewery (They are real beer folks ) or better yet, bring it up to Haines,Alaska to the Home brew fest (end of may) And spend three days drinking beer, talking beer, smelling beer, looking at beer. And bring your bow ! Frank

Hi Mark & All, great to see the photo, and I was sorry I coudn't make it (especially as it was at my own club's grounds >:() The fella on the right is probably familiar with PA readers, 'cos he's Micky Pearce, starring in at least one of the pictures in the last PA, in the coverage of the World Traditional Archery event in Korea. He is a life member of our club, the Company of Sixty, and Carol Edward's other half... ;D
The rack of T-shirts is part of Carol's stuff for sale, and I believe are US-imports (from a UK point of view) depicting wild animals - quite popular with our field archers over here.
I hope to make the next SPTA do......my bamboo-backed Osage might even be nearly ready........
Regards, Bob

We wear morning suits and top hats for the morning shoot but don't get real formal until the bow ties come out in the evening. The photo must have caught us in our messy old archery gear!
My long arrows are sort of replica Native Soth American, bamboo with Ipe foreshafts and twin fletched. I shot them for fun and did Ok with them. I have thrown them about 65 yards from a forked stick and string type atlatl.
I like to do the good beer comment. I get so many invites to come over and drink yours! Mmmm....Beer....Mmmm

I am third from left in blue fleece with wych elm (vaguely holmegaarde style) bow, cup of COFFEE (sorry no beer tent) and stupid grin, despite having shot about the worst round of my life. Hey this is primitive archery, if you want to hit the target buy one of them things with wheels and pulleys on it!
Currently working on a piece of local ash to make a cherokee style bow ready for the next SPTA shoot - see you all there.

rough looking group of individuals to be sure. vaguely resembles my last family reunion. mark, you may want to check out the leatherwall. they are debating the accuracy of medieval longbowman. some are actually thinking they couldn't hit a bull in the butt and all the kills were luck.
-
Looks like a bunch of nice bows and fun bunch of folks. I'll be there were some good campfire stories told. Jim
