Title: Ive done a good job making an ugly bow. ( Autographed )
Post by: sleek on August 20, 2016, 01:39:59 am
I made my nock to skinny so decided side lams would do the trick. Picked a fancy wood for the job so it would stand out. Shoulda gone with osage.

The first picture seemed good. The rest, not so much?   :-X

You could.. paint it?.. it's only aesthetic after all..

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That handle is SWEET. Too bad you couldn't stain the tip of the osage like a mohagony and have it fade out.

Too thin? Sound like Malarkey to me . If you'd made overlay straight at the base it may of looked better. It would of been cool (but defeat the purpose) if you cut a v out of the bottom of the overlay.

Gee thanks everyone. I was certain I had ruined the bow, but now, im really liking it. It took some shaping and came out alright. Tomorrow, the bkw is going to the gunshow to see if I can get some grocery money.

Newindian, I like that V idea. May try that.

Whatchu talkin' bout?   Ain't no ugly on that stick!  Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.  In my experience, no matter what your lookin' at, if it's ugly...grab another beer and it'll start looking better!  >:D.  Seriously though, the only thing on that bow that gives me pause is the crack that runs through the handle up through the fade.  I've had em split right there if I didn't leave enough meat for the cutout shelf.  But...if you doped it good with superglue and made the fade nice and long it should be fine.  Nice job!  Josh

Since you ruined it just send it to me and I'll dispose of it for you.  ;D That's a classic full draw you have there. Beautiful!   8)
I don't think the tips were too narrow to begin with. If you leave the tips 1/2" thick you can narrow them to 1/4" or maybe less.

Well I appreciate the compliments. What I had made too thin was the nock. It was a pin knot and too small so I did these tips to beef it up.

So, today at the gunshow I met football hall of fame running back Joe Washington. Got to pose with him for a pic and he autographed both of my bows I had with me.  I dont know if that does anythimg to help or hurt them. Depends on if you are a Redskins fan or no.

He thought it was neat, asked If I shot them, made a joke about holding them backwards, I made a hillary clinton joke, he autographed, we talked a few seconds about them, and went to the next person in the crowd.

That bow turned out very nice Sleek, fine finish work and full draw seems dead on. I think you did more than good on fixing your issues with it.

Those cracks are almost non existent. Just enough of them left to show color from oxygen exposure.

A nice hand painted full color Redskins logo might be appropriate at this point, or maybe just a two tone stencil version in that mahogany stain. Full color might be too gaudy.
