Title: English Warbow Book??
Post by: jaxenro on August 24, 2016, 07:57:19 am
Can anyone recommend a really good book on construction of a historically accurate English War bow and related equipment (i.e. arrows, quivers, etc.)? One that covers some history and the archers deployment and armor would be nice as well but I could see that might be a different book

I am collecting articles from the web but nothing beats sitting down with a good book and reading it

I have always been told that Weapons of Warre is extremely good book for construction of Mary Rose warbows replicas. But its a bit pricey (38 pounds).

Weapons Of Warre is your best option.

Detailed dimensions of every bow, drawings of each one, sections on timber quality, density, nocks, strings, arrows, arrow bags and bracers etc, plus details on construction of each element and construction of replicas and the testing thereof.  It goes as far as chemical analysis of the glues used on the arrows.

It's the same one.  For some reason it's called something different depending where you're looking.

Featuring aspects of medieval techniques brings some mysterious motifs to the whole book. The author managed to create an illustration of the era-appropriate arrows and bows. This review is to emphasize that accuracy, speed, power and range of bowmaking can be equally evaluated by a specialist at any time. As I do my essay (https://writemyessaytoday.net/) project on bowmaking and archery, a goodreads review by Mike Edwards.

Hello,

My favorite book is Secrets of the English War Bow by Hugh D. H. Soar (2004). There's one more book by this author that is worth attention: The Crooked Stick: A History of the Longbow. I often visit The Longbow Shop and check its collections - many useful materials too.
