Title: Osage take down
Post by: ---GUTSHOT---> on October 28, 2016, 09:57:11 pm
this is my first take down and first time using billets. I started with a single billet and cut into sister billets. Was going for a 60" take down but after 2 mistakes and starting over for the 3rd time I decided to go with a deflex handle with flipped tips since the bow was going to be so short. After getiing my sleeves fitted and all the twist out I laid the bow out parallel 1.5"from handle down 12" then tapered to 1/2" then added 1/4" pin nocks. After getting the bow tillered I tapped off the working belly limbs and done a light fume for 3 days on the fades and flipped tips. The little bow turned out 52" ntn @ 26"draw and 55#.  She is backed with white banded water snakes and the tip overlays and removable rest is some sort of brown cow horn or buffalo not sure both was from Osage outlaw in a trade thanks Clint.
The sleeve is wrapped in goat raw hide glued on with tight bond 3, fast flight string with road kill mink silencers. Bow is finished with 10coats of low gloss tung oil and satin clear. Thanks for looking.

This is why I made a removable rest. I'm going to make a case to fit in my truck to hold the bow arrows fishing real and arrows.

That turned out awesome!  Those skins look pretty good on osage.  I hope you bring it to Moontree so I can see it in person.  Or bring it up one day this winter and we will work on some bows.

Those skins are broad banded water snake.

That came out great Paul!  I really like the rawhide over the sleeve...it really makes the handle pop.  The heat treatment near the fades makes those growth rings really shine.  Youll have to take some pictures when you harvestvsome carp.

I missed this bow when it was first posted. During our trade, Paul mentioned his bow he posted for BOM, so i had to go check it out. This thing is awesome. I love short bows, and being a take down, it gave some inspiration to use those short yew billets I have, not even once before had it come to mind to use them as a takedown or splicing them. So thank you gut for posting this bow, what a fantastic bow.

Eric

Thanks for bringing this one back out high desert. I must have missed it too. Love everything about it Gutshot, especially that full draw picture. I like how you mounted your fishing reel. That is just a regular reel isn't it? I can almost hear "fish on"

Very nice bow Paul. Looks like a screamer, the skins are beautiful. The only thing I would suggest is to use the long sleeve at the lower limb, but that's only me ...
