I'm working on some fumed osage bows at the moment. Some straight, some statics - here is one of these, more will come.
Only little heat gun correction for balancing out, no heat treatment. All the colors are from the fuming process (five days) and the tiller scraping after fuming. An additional ring on the back works as natural nock overlay (cutting through the back!). Arrow mark is a little brass nail filed flat, no more stuff on the bow except some oil. Circular tiller with semi stiff tips, reflex is natural. Slightly narrowed handle. Very springy shooter!
specs:
57#/26”
brace height: 5¾”
Lost 1” during tillering, now net 2½”.
Length 54½”
width/depth at handle 26/16mm
width/depth at max 31/13mm
width/depth at nock kerf 6/13mm
mass: 403 gram = 14,2 oz

Very very nice beautifull bow
-
Very nice looking bow. I really like the simple, clean look of that. I might borrow the brass nail idea.
-
My kinda bow Simon. Should have good cast. Shame on you for cutting nocks across the back. Everyone knows you can't do that! ;)
-
Yeah, and you're not supposed to drive nails into your bows either! Beautiful work as always - that looks like it would be fun to shoot.
-
Did you actually drive the nail in or did you pre-drill a hole? How far in does it go?
-
Looks Great! I like the finish
-
I was just trying to be funny with the nail driving comment...surely it's predrilled (although drilling holes in bows is a wee bit outside the box as well).
-
Beautiful bow
-
nice one,, I love that,, my favorite kind of bow,, I can see it must have the nice cast for a straight bow,, whew,, :)
-
Classy.

-
Beautifully done bow. Bet it shoots as good as it looks.

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Nice to see some of your exceptional work again Simon, this one looks just great all around. Looking forward to seeing the others as well. That fuming your doing just keeps looking better every time and your tillers are still perfect, keep 'em coming.
-
A thing of beauty...doesn't need to be dressed up to be exceptional. I can't believe how much reflex your bows keep!
-
Masterful 8)
-
Love this bow, just beautiful! An easy weight to carry around in the bush while 57# @ 26" is great for a bow of this size and weight.
-
Beautiful bow, very nice work. :)

Gorgeous
I don't know what fuming is.
-
57# at 54" length, wow...it doesn't take much more than a splinter to make an osage bow. Beautiful bow and tiller.
-
Another beautiful stick Simon!
-
Thank you for sharing your art
-
I missed this one somehow. Very nice simple osage bow, Simon. 8)

That is one classy lady. Elegant.

Some of you asked about my pausing here - I had some healthy issues to play with, but I'm coming along.
Did you actually drive the nail in or did you pre-drill a hole? How far in does it go?
the nail was shortened, hole drilled in the neutral plane, a drop of super glue, filed in shape - that's all
Gorgeous
I don't know what fuming is.
Please go on my site search for fuming and you will see it is a treatment with ammonia.

My thoughts too Hrothgar. Looking at simple plain sticks, people who do not know it's a child's bow. Great surprise when I shoot with one these.
Nice to be here again, and glad you like my work. Thanks for looking and comments. The next will come soon.

Great to see you back again, I always enjoy seeing your work!
-
That's extraordinary blend of craftsmanship and good wood to get such power out of such a little bit of wood!
It looks pretty gorgeous too! :D

Another masterpiece :)
