I am planning on making a Ache style bow from the Amazon. These bows are 85-87" long, round cross section and I want a 100# bow @ 31" draw. First choice would be ipe, but this is probably not realistic. Next a diffuse porous heavy wood like hornbeam. Black walnut, elm, hickory, locust, plum, oak, osage, ash would work and others I'm not thinking about. I understand shipping will be around $50 for that size and will pay that on top of whatever we decide for trade or PM me with other offers. I have lots of other staves including perfect flawless 70" rocky mt juniper. Bighorn sheep scraps, shafts, sinew, feathers and maybe other things.
Im also still looking for a 51" olive stave.

I doubt I have anything that long but I'll look. Shipping will be ridiculously high.
-
I have some that long but the shipping from north of the border might be a bit crazy
-
I'm not sure you can ship a stave that long without shipping it by Freight.
-
I may have something you can use. Gonna have to get an answer on the shipping though. That could be prohibitive.
-
How about a spliced handle, Chuck? Is that feasible with your project?
-
It has a little wonkiness to it.

Its narrowest point is around 74".

Chuck, your in box is full. I have a Siberian elm log if that would work. No promises that it would work. It has been cut for two years, bark on.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Marc, if you pm me your zip code I can see if it is even possible and if so the cost. Looking at the USPS site it looks like we can ship 85" from the lower 48. Clint, I wanted to try and get a solid stave for bend through the handle. You have hooked me up nearly every trade I have done here and I've always been very happy. Don't feel bad letting someone else in. Stringman, If I can't find a strait stave in the next few days I will take you up on that one. It will just take a bit of straitening work. Joe, I made some room in my message box. If your stave worked I could pick it up next time I am in SLC.
Thanks again

I'll check too, Chuck. I may have some osage that would do you well.
-
Got some hickory straight as a gun barrel even reflexed but only 75" long.
-
I don't have a zip code just a postal code
I thought I had an Ironwood stave that length but I used it already. I have a White Ash stave in my shop that is over 7' long. It's a sawn wedge 2" wide, no knots and quite straight. I think have an Elm stave or 2 that long as well. The problem is the shipping. I would have to use a courier service as the postal system won't accept it

Chuck - sent you a pm.
Mitch

Thanks everybody. I think Mitch may have my HHB stave.
