Title: In the works
Post by: Badly Bent on December 30, 2016, 06:44:39 pm
Did the final tiller tweaks, shoot-in and put the first coat of finish on this one today. Rawhide and snakeskin backed osage around 60"ntn and 52# @ 24". I'll get more pics up after I have the finishing and handle wrap on it in a week or so.
In the meantime does anyone know what type of snake these skins came from? I got a couple pairs from Stringman in a trade and I don't know my snakes very well as I mostly try and avoid them, the live ones that is. ;)

The consensus seems to be water snake and my foggy brain seems to now recall Scott saying he thought the same when he handed to me.
I have another pair from Scott of a completely different snake for the grandson's bow and his moms bringing the bow over tomorrow so I can
glue those down.
Yes I know Jon & Simon, I'm a short drawing archer at @ 24". When I try and stretch my draw out further my shooting really gets no better and 24" draw is where its comfortable for me.  I lean my head in quite a bit on the aim, I call it a hunters style of shooting although in my case not a lot of animals have been harmed by my arrows lately. ;)
Went to the shop and got a couple more coats of finish on it and another bow I'm finishing today, had no one to take a full draw pic but did get a braced pic before breaking out the tung oil for more coats.
Thanks for the comments guys.

Nice to see you with pic posting capabilities, Greg! The world's gonna really open up now!  ;)

You are right about the skins. They are eastern Diamondback watersnakes I got from Cip. Very nice look on that bow too!

Nice to see you using that new phone Greg. I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures and a nice full 24" draw. That works fine for me it's almost my full draw and like you said sometimes it's hard to get that last little bit of draw in hunting situations.
