Title: Hazel selfbow
Post by: freke on January 03, 2017, 06:16:27 pm
Hi, built a hazel bow and 69"65#@29",  and was thinkling about get some comments about tiller and design, my wife take a picture at full draw?

It is built from a stave 1" deflex, that I increased in green forming once drying including flipped tips - after tiller did I heat treat it and try add some more reflex lost in tiller but after shooting it in. Tips set nearly an inch compare to handle but little difficult to judge, and how bad or good it is, but it hit harder and faster.
My target is to use it for next season if I can get my strength up a notch:) to shoot it consistently ( recover from an accident) - so if tiller is not good is there is room for correction.

Many thanks for advice, and happy new year

Awesome bow! I really like the drawn and braced profiles, and I don't think 1" of set is too bad at all, especially if you started with some deflex. The only critique I can think of at all is that you might be able to take some wood off of the tips, but its hard to tell how deep they are from the pics.

The tiller looks pretty spot on to me as well. At 65# I'm sure it hits hard. Think I might have to get me some hazel now! Any idea what species? Hazel (Corylus) is a genus with a number of different species. I have no idea which are the best.
