Title: a knife for me
Post by: bubby on January 04, 2017, 01:15:05 am
I have been working on this friction folder for a while and finally think I'm done. The blade is from a file with all the cutters removed, i did some file work on the spine of the blade and tha handle is curly maple now i need to make a sheath for it(http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/neck%20knife/20170103_211428_HDR_zpswbsvavl1.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/neck%20knife/20170103_211428_HDR_zpswbsvavl1.jpg.html)

Wow Bub, that's a beauty. Very nice work all around, the spine is something special!
How did you get the black color on the spacers at the spine?
What finish or treatment did you use on the maple?

Simon i soaked the blade in ferric acid for a dark patina then i sanded it off the blade itself leaving the dark in the file work. I used a oil based maple stain two coats then several coats of tung oil
