Title: It's a Rhyolite something!
Post by: nclonghunter on January 17, 2017, 02:29:06 pm
Lost about 1/2 inch on length and 3 inches on width. This rock is hard to get wide and thin. I suppose it could be a knife or a Rhyolite version of a danish dagger...:-)

If I was working it I'd end up with it broken and then it'd be two knives. Of course the big problem would be one short one and one long one cause I'm sure it wouldn't break in the middle on me.lol. Nice work there NC looks impressive to me. Bjrogg

Lyman, looks like you got a real handle on the rhyolite. As for the strength of rhyolite knives ask James Parker about how strong they are against trees in the wee hours, I'll let him tell ya story.  ;D Bob

Bob, sounds like it will be a good story... ;D

Measured the thing and it is 7 1/2 inches. I made a few more edge flake removals and still didn't break it. Must have been living right today.. :)

Looks like it needs an antler haft!  May not be a good throwing knife.  Real nice work
