Title: My daughter crashed into my bow shop
Post by: osage outlaw on February 10, 2017, 08:47:14 pm
I was in my bow shop taking the sapwood off of some osage staves this evening.  I heard the garage door open which means my wife and daughter were home.  As I walked to the door of my shop I heard the engine rev up and then a big crash.  The wall came flying in at me and I jumped out of the way.  She stepped on the gas peddle instead of the brake.  She has her learners permit.  I keep my firewood in 2 barrels just outside my shop.  I had a couple buckets of kindling in front of them.  Luckily those barrels absorbed a lot of the impact.  If those weren't there she would have gained more speed and hit the wall with more force.  I'm sure I would have been injured.  I was pretty angry and she was really upset.  It did some damage to the car.  My workshop wall wasn't to hard to fix.  I was able to take a big sledge hammer and knock it back into place.  It's not as straight as it was before but its good enough.  My door opens and closes so that's good.

I think my daughter definitely learned a lesson.  She cried for about 3 hours straight after it happened.  She finally calmed down and then lost it again when she told me good night.

OPPS!😥😥. Doesn't look like any bows got busted - every body is ok, that's what count.  Might make good footage for an insurance commercial, though. Got firewood?  Chance for a new shop?  She'll be embarrassed about that for years to come.  Most of us have done something similar at one time or another.

Glad no one was hurt. Didn't someone run into your house last year? Make sure you give her a big hug Clint, she's  probably more upset than you are.

Memorial day some kid drove into the room where my wife worked and destroyed it. In December another kid crashed into my wife's car as she was driving home.  We just got the car fixed a couple of weeks ago.  Also, I recently finished the walls in my workshop.

Sorry about the car and shop, that stuff is fixable!  The #1 thing is nobody got hurt. I see you started on the big stage with holes in it! Can't wait to see it finished out

But seriously tho' were any bows hurt?  ;) ::)
Remind me again... the brake is the big one on the left? Right? errr I mean left... (sorry... hope it's not too soon for silliness)

Glad no one was hurt....I've been there Clint, I parked my bass boat under the car port and one night my daughter did the same thing, knocked the boat into the back yard about 30ft.  She woke up her mother and she thought they could push it back in place without me knowing lol lol.  It happens.... I got to know the local body shop really good for a few years, with my girls.  again glad no one was hurt.

Luckily no bows or tools were damaged.  A handful of clamps were nocked to the ground.  And between the wife and kids we know the local body shop owner pretty well.  I hope this is the last time we have to see him for a while.

I got the bark and sapwood off of that stave yesterday before the excitement happened.  I got a better look at those knots.  It's going to be a major challenge.

We've had the same insurance for the last 17 years.  They have always taken good care of us.

If I seen the wall coming at me I think I would've had to change my shorts.
At least nobody was hurt that's the main thing.

Pedals have been pretty annoying to get the hang of. I think I once pressed both the gas and brake at the same time while at an intersection and scared the heck out of me and my mom. Still just have my learner's permit. Thankfully no crashes yet..

She should probably look into improving her pedal 'form'. I find I have to keep the heel of my right foot closer to the brake than to the gas to prevent what happened.. still not very comfortable, which is annoying, oh well

Padals... you wanna try a car with hand controls  :o !
I scared the c&*p out of myself trying to move my son's car one time... it has hand controls... when I wanted to stop I pressed my foot down on a big steel blanking plate that covers over the pedals and of course nothing happend :o Got my brain in gear just about in time and pushed the hand control so hard I nearly went through the windscreen

Glad to hear everyone is ok.
My daughter went out to start my car one day and ended half way up a wheelchair ramp on my front porch. Hope this will be one of the things you look back on later and laugh about. Ed

I recently had a brake line rust through. Rolled through a stop sign just after picking up my boy from day care. Luckily no one was coming. Was close enough to home to get there with hazards and hand brake... Since then I've had dreams of using the wrong pedal(which is what I thought happened at first). Good luck with the repairs and make sure she knows you love her, but I'm sure you've already done that.
