Title: R/D Osage Bow
Post by: Marc St Louis on March 12, 2008, 03:26:43 pm
This a reflex deflex Osage bow I made for a guy in HI. It's 62" long overall with 1 1/4" wide limbs that taper to 3/8" nocks and pulls 60# @ 26". The bow has a Montana Rattlesnake skin backing and the belly has a shallow D section.  There's no leather wrap on the handle as the guy wanted to do that himself. I've shot the bow and it shoots very well and has good speed. I tillered the bow with 1/8" positive tiller.  The finish is a layered Tung Oil, Shellac with a final sealant of paste wax. Here's a couple pics

Beautidul job as usual Mark. I really like the distinctive way you do your handle and fades, all the benefits of a stiff handle and nearly as much working limb as a bendy handle bow. Great design. Steve

Hey, Marc
Super nice, as usual. Is the bow backed with anything, other than the SSs?

Sweet bow Marc, those skins look real similar to the prairie rattler. I'm sure this bow will be a hit.

The guy wanted a selfbow. I had these excellent billets that DCM traded me a few years ago so I spliced them together for this bow, they were about the best Osage I had on hand.  There's a couple pin knots on both limbs but besides that they are clean with excellent growth rings

Another beauty Mark. You really got those R/D bows down and are kicking out quite a few.  Love the skins and looks like the tiller is dead on.   ;D  Keenan

Thanks guys.

Some bows are relatively easy to tiller and R/D bows are one of them

Really a looker! Montana Rattlesnake, huh. I've got to look around a little more. Our prairie rattlers usually don't grow more than two feet. Got your nice bow all bookmarked, too.
