Title: Staining dense wood
Post by: DC on March 28, 2017, 12:37:26 pm
I'm trying to stain an Ocean Spray Bow. It's very dense wood, approaching SG=1. All I've tried so far is Watco Oil and it just seems to float on top. If I wipe it at all, it all comes off. The stave was shellacked but I scrubbed it with alcohol and lacquer thinner. Any suggestions?

Agreed... if you want deep color on dense wood, use dyes....
