Title: Yew Primitive 45# @ 28"
Post by: Del the cat on June 01, 2017, 11:11:22 am
I was making a primitive for a guy last year who wanted something with some character but it exploded on the tiller (too much character  >:( )... I told him I'd have some more staves seasoned by now if he was still interested.
I was a tad nervous as the Laburnum I'd been working on exploded to, it was nice to get back to Yew and this one still has plenty of character.
It's 66" ttt, with working limbs pretty much equal length. I had to heat out some deflex and twist, but didn't worry to take it all out.
Detail pics of some of the features in the next post  ;D

Detail pics of some of the knots... not so big as the holes you boys get in some of those Osage bows. We like to be a little more discreet this side of the pond  ;)
That Laburnum had a big hole and it exploded (mind it wasn't at the hole  ::) )

I like that bow, Del. Clean and simple with plenty of natural character. Just one of the many benefits of yew.

Wow, very nice work.  There are not many things prettier than a simple yew bow.

Refined character Del. Glad things quit going bang for you, but that's what happens when you live on the edge.

Beautiful bow Del and a skilled tiller. I make less and less bows with knots now. They look cool, but partially because of the dry climate here I find no matter how how well I work around knots they still explode after 2-4 years. Mainly I'm talking about yew and juniper/ sinew. I think people don't have as much of a problem in humid climates.
