I have to make a bow for a child and I'm not at home
I've found a maple sapling with many pins around 1' 1/2 large at his min. debarked.
That's what I have. Will it handle a very fast and brutal shaping and fast drying?
maple will check or twist?
I aim at very small poundage so I can thin it alot
thanks

As far as white woods I have only seasoned hickory, ash, oak & maple in stave form out of all those maple seems to lose the most weight the quickest I'm just guessing but a sapling ruffed down maybe a month natural at the quickest 50% RH 72 Deg or quicker hot box but that's just a guess on my part Maple is a great bow wood !

As long as it doesn't have spiral growth then it shouldn't twist. As far as the drying, the tips will split unless you take precautions. You could seal the ends but that will slow down drying. If you have a couple small C clamps you could rough the bow out and clamp the tips together to stop them from splitting, just keep tightening them up every few hours. That will still allow moisture to escape

thankyou for the input
I have plenty of lenght so no problem with the checks at tips
i dont have clamp here but I could wrap tight the tips with rope.
today I'll try to rough it while leaving extra length. will remove it when more dry
