got tillered, smoked, new war paint ;),and is bieng kept next to heat for warmth till i get its winter "fat" on her.
i will finish and stitch leather handle, and make string tonite.
2 kills...this bow did not want to be weak!
it has plenty of power to shoot THRU deer right now at 22",and last you MANY YEARS . as i pulled it to 26",and the weight went thru the roof.
just get lots of practice in.
fast like a mustang.
ill post finished pics tonite.

Nice work Jamie. Tell me about how you apply the bear grease. On the few I have applied it I just hand rubbed it(with ground charcoal for coloration) Pat
-
i first color the limbs with ochre and hardwood charcoal first and apply with a little water while bow is still white and untreated..but smoked.
then i let dry good.
then i wipe down good with cloth
then i heat up the bow to help open pores and apply grease.
warm bow,cold grease.
wipe on and buff dry.
just once should do,as i smoked the bow prior.
you probably doin the same as me .
the grease i have is dood and stiff and just has slight smell, i cant figure out how to get that out but im goin to try rendering down one more time and adding some pine bark to give good scent.
cold lard will work too.
just buff dry.

i tried to darken the bow the best i could, but that elm is like a beacon of white light!
i got it darker but not much. i am done using all the crap at the paint stores and home depot.
i sewed up handle tonite, and i reached right past the barge cement and used my sticky batch of resin and used it to secure handle tight before i stiched it up.
if i had more time i would make a natural string but i just want to get josiah his bow.
mbg.

Yeah he is my youngest son Josiah... got the new name this winter shen he shot two rabbits one right after the other.... sure wish i could shoot like him ;D ;D

Hawk, when I was about 11 yrs old I had been hunting jack rabbits almost everyday for the past 3 years. I had yet to kill one. I flung a lot of arrows and killed a few possums but never a jack. One day two jacks came out of a bush and headed opposite directions, I nailed both of them, best day of my life, I can relate to the boy. Steve

Steve , those kind of days are what keeps us going out there... not only the kill .. but the chance to test ourselves and our skills in the wild places .. thanks for sharing your story brother.. Hawk..a/ho
