Has anyone done a tip like this? It would be prettier when done ;) I'm wondering about having the string pulling right on the glue line, more or less. There may also be less glue area unless I made it longer.

That's an amazing tip, will love to see it finished up...

As long as the string doesn't have a chance to get under the overlay you should be OK. Using that piece as an overlay with the string groove in it would be better.

Yeah, but then it wouldn't be different. I was just trying to come up with the minimum with out going to a sinew wrap. I think a wrap would be tough to brace. Pin nocks need shoulders to hold the string so they can only be so narrow.

Dc i think it would be safer if the overlay was quartersawn and like an 1/8" of it ran under the string. Just my 2 cents

Like that you wont need a wrap

You would be better off gluing it on a slight angle and leaving a sliver of the overlay still intact past the string. You could still shape it exactly the same way only the string would act like it is not trying to separate any growth rings or glue lines.

I see what you mean. That would work. it would give a longer glue line too.
Thanks :D
