Title: Our very own dvshunter in the Missouri River 340! HE MADE IT!
Post by: lebhuntfish on August 09, 2017, 10:53:50 am
Some of you may know that Dave (dvshunter) has entered and is currently participating in a 340 mile race down the Missouri River.  Starting in Kansas city Kansas and ended in St Charles Missouri. He is doing this in a two man kayak. If you would like, here is a way to keep track of his progress and the race all together.
Go to raceowl. com  (remove the space between. And com)
It is quite the race and Dave has worked hard training for this.  Here is his info to look for on the long list of over 450 boats.  Check out number 56 in the pic below.  Team name is Fubar!
Good luck buddy! And be safe out there on the Missouri River!

If you go to raceowl and find his Team you can click on his underlined boat number and it will show where he is and when he checked in and out at the check it points.

Go, Dave!  That is a lot of traffic on that stretch of river!  Hopefully, it ain't at flood stage, it's wild enough at normal.

Hawk,  the river looked pretty good yesterday when I drove accross it.  Just be glad its not the mississippi.  It looked pretty rough!

I am trying to find the TV clip that had him and his cousin at the start of the race but I cannot seem to locate it.  I think it was on Fox 4 out of KC, but I cannot locate it on their page. Sitting there watching tv last night and, low and behold, there is Captain Redbeard and his cousin right in front of the camera!

I was going to try to swing by the Miami, MO today, which is one of the check points, to see if I could see him, but time constraints with work meant that it just was not happening.

Pat B, not too many tug boats on the Missouri this far up.  This time of year it is mainly dredges trying to keep the channel open.  I think that is one reason they do it this time of year.  Not much barge traffic.

Also, they schedule it on a full moon so they can navigate the river better at night which will help.  I keep wanting to txt him to see how its going but I remember what happened when Pat called him and he was on the river.  So I will wait a few days  :)

Best of luck to Team FUBAR!!!

Neal

I expect to see him check in in jefferson city any time.  I did notice that there is a lag in time from when they actually check in and when its posted on the web site.
Here is a link to his direct stats.  I noticed that these are a little more accurat than the big list.  But you have to refresh it.

Fubar just checked in at the Jefferson City check point.  Its right under the bridge,  you can see the capital accross the river from the landing.  Way to go buddy!
They are currently 77th and 20th in their devision.

I also checked the front runner spot.  They have one finished in 37hours and 9min.
Mens tandem,  "horse with no name" looks to be the winner.

I'd say so Ed, a bit more demanding than 14 canoes floating 55 miles downstream in two days with a half barrel of barley pop for refreshments.
Go fubar. Might have to put a pirate flag on that vessel Captain Red Beard. Thanks for the updates Patrick

Thats funny Bob!

Ed,  your probably right about being in their prime.  But I read about a guy that last year was his forth mr340 and he was 79 years old.

I expect fubar to be checking in before long at their next check point.  Looks like they got an early start today,  they left Jeff City at 530 this morning.
Event staff said that the river has dropped a little and that might have slowed some of them down a bit.  Go Fubar!

Aargh!  Those are some fast paddlers!,  those front runners did better than 9 mph!!  Not a sport for folks with bad shoulders and backs.  Fun for them that can, though - I will stick "struggling" 10km "runs", although it is mostly walk and a bit of double time now.  Go Dave!

Well im a little late reporting  but Dave checked in at hermann check point at 12:09 and was back on the water at 12:19. They have one more check point to hit before the finish line in St Charles Missouri.  They are currently 104th over all.  Go Fubar!

Not really sure Mike,  I would say it depends on if they stop at the Klondike check point or not.  And if they do,  how long they stop.
I do know that right now he should be at about Washington Missouri right about now.
They dint have a GPS tracker on their boat but a guy that is about 10 minutes ahead and of him does.  That's how I am figuring out his current location.  The website only showes check point check it's and out 's.
Ill see if I can figure it out thought.

Well Mike I was eating ice cream if you want to know!

Ok I found this list of check points and cut off times.  I'm guessing that Dave will be at the klondike check point about dark.  If I read this list right its only 27 more miles to the finish line.  So I would say if he decides to push through to the finish he might be there early am.  That all depends on when they check out.  They have been on the water since 530 this morning with only a 10 min break.

Ok,  scratch that they just checked in to the klondike at 538. They did not stay! They are headed out on the last 27 miles.  Looks like they have spead up a bit! So Mike they might be there as early as 8 tonight. Now thats just a guess. But with their current rate its possible.

Do you know where the finish line is?

Hey guys thanks for following along! What a wild adventure it was. We had carp, barges, beaver, and bugs, but we made it. It was a new level of tired of found. We went from Jeff City to St Charles with our heads down and pumping paddled the whole way except to RE water for about five minutes in Hermann. Having done it once now, I'm thinking about going for the record
